Where does Edge fund fit into scheme of things?
T'o the editor,
Where is the Edge Fund?
This fund was begun for a publicity
statement / photo shoot in my opinion.
I say this because I was at the meeting
held at GDCI, and heard of all the
things that were going to take place
with the montes from the Edge Fund.
Since that meeting, there was much
criticism of the Goderich Municipal
and Marine Heritage Committee (of
which I am co-chair)about what that
committee was allowing to take place
in Goderich. As all know, many build-
ings
were beyond saving and with pub-
lic
safety in mind, exorbitant preserva -
tion costs and buildings open to the
weather the Heritage Committee had
no option but to allow thedemolition
of heritage homes and buildings.
The Edge Fund web site home page
states that for every dollar raised it
would match up to a total of $200,000.
They also state they are committed to
prompt decision making; no red tape;
equal treattnent along with total
transparency.
The Edge Fund purpose was to cover
the 10% cost that insurance and the
Goderich Disaster Relief Fund could
not cover. Just for a point of interest -
this 10% I would estimate to be many
hundreds of thousands of dollars.
In a letter of August 24th, it was
stated that Marcy McCall McBain for-
merly of Seaforth (now in Zurich Swit-
zerland) had pledged $100,000 with an
additional amount of leverage funding,
up to $200,000 to be matched only by
cash to a minimum total of $500,000.
What is the status of these funds?
I personally have not heard a word
about the Edge fund since that Septem-
ber Saturday at GDCI, and the criticism
of others from its founder.
It is now time for Mark Hussey, Rick
Lobb and Randall Lobb to let the citi-
zens of Goderich, especially those indi-
viduals and businesses devastated by
the events of August 21st know just
where it is the Edge Fund fits into the
scheme of things and how much mon-
ies are available to those who have
applied to the Goderich Disaster Relief
Fund.
As you have stated on the web site of
the Edge Fund you are committed to
transparency. We take you at your
word. This is my view, and my "opinion
as I see it..
Respectfully
Mittens raise funds for tornado relief
lo the editor,
During a conversation about raising
money for the Goderich Relief Fund, my
friend suggested selling mittens. I
jumped at the idea andwent to Kevin
Soehner. He gave me a price of $5 a pair.
I decided to sell the mitts at $loa pair,
and the entire profit of $5 would go to
Goderich R ief Fund.
I thank To Finc'her of Pinchers, Bill
Brittain of nstons, Steve Rock of
Kulpeppers, Cheryl Dunn of Worth's
,Sandy Wilson of The Goderich Com-
munity Credit Union, Lee Ryan, Kim
Demerling and Pat Costello of the Town
Hall, and Don Edward of Don Edward
Shell Fuels for selling the mitts for me
without any charge for their services. A
special thank you to the office staff of
Don Edward Shell Fuel staff and super-
visors who held a business meeting and
encouraged me to carry out the
project.
A very special thank you to Kevin
Soehner and his capable staff ,especially
Jim Rut
Lynn Ran.
Thy
e t Love Goderich Mitten Relief
:Fund has succeeded beyond belief.
Over 70 dozen mitts and gloves have
been sold and the demand is still there.
We are rung out of gloves but hope-
fully will have enough gloves to sell until
my cutoff date which is Christmas Eve.
I gave a cheque for $3,335.00 to the
Goderich Relief Fund on November
29th. This is doubled by'the government
to make it $10,005. I hope to have
another $1,500 by Christmas Eve to give
to The Goderich Relief Fund.
The Community Spirit displayed by
you the Citizens of Goderich and area
give the fullest meaning in our hearts
and minds to "The True Spirit of
Christmas".
To paraphrase Tiny Tim's comment in
Charles Dicken's Christmas Carol ;
Sincerely,
"MAY GOD BLESS YOU EVERYONE"

To the Editor and Huron County
