and Fuels, Shell pump up tornado relief effort
Dave Sykes
Signal Star
While many businesses are making
generous contributions to the Tornado
Disaster Relief Fund, often the contribu-
tions may end up helping some of their
own employees and families who suf-
fered damage and losses in the Aug. 21
tornado.
Last week Shell Canada and Edward
Fuels teamed up to donate $22,500 to the
relief fund, a contribution that will inject
$67,500 into the fund after. matching
grants on a two-for-one basis from the
provincial government are applied.
Edward Fuels employee Scott
Kernighan and five family members sur-
vived a direct hit as they were in the path
of the tornado in a cabin just south of the
Benmiller Bridge.
Dave Kew witnessed the devastation of
that Sunday afternoon tornado from the
Edward Fuels location on Huron Road.
Bill Vanstone's parents, Verdun and
Lois Vanstone, had their home at the cor-
ner of Cambria Road and Park Street, an
area that took a direct hit from the storm,
completely destroyed. It is now in the
process of being rebuilt at the same
location.
The donation from Shell, Edward Fuels
and Don and Lynn Edward was pre-
sented to ODRAP committee members
Dr. Tom Jasper, Kenn Dunn and Jerry
Felton.
