Protect yourselflfrom being a victim of a scam; do not pro- vide personal and banking infor- mation over the phone when you receive unsolicited telephone calls. Car thief arrested On December 4, at approximately 7:30 p.m. South Bruce OPP officers were dispatched to a report of a theft of gasoline from a gas station located on Elora Street in Mildmay. Min- utes later the suspect vehicle was observed on County Road 3 in Carrick Township, A traf- fic stop was initiated and the driver immediately took off running from the vehicle.. A search of the area was con- ducted however the suspect was not immediately located. Subsequent investiga- tion revealed the involved • vehicle, a Mini Cooper had been reported stolen from a car dealership in Toronto. In addition, the attached licence plates had also been reported stolen. On December 5, Huron OPP officers learned the suspect was hitchhiking in Iluron County. At approx imately 9 p.m. Huron OPP and South Bruce OPP officers attended an address in Bluewater, ON and arrested the male. As a result, a 44 -year-old man frorn Torento has been charged with the follow- ing offences: Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada, two counts of Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada, Theft Under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) Criminal Code of Can- ada, Flight from Police Officer contrary to section 249.1(1) Criminal Code of Canada, two counts of Breach of Probation contrary to section 733.1(1) Criminal Code of Canada and two counts of Fail to Com- ply with a Recognizance con- trary to section 145(3) Crimi- nal Code of Canada. He is cur- rently in custody with a show cause hearing scheduled for Ontario Court of Justice -Walk- erton on December 8, 2011. Officers observed the vehicle sud- denly pull into a parking lot and then turn around to avoid the spot.check. Officers followed the car and were able to locate it ata residence on Oxford Street. A search of the area was conducted however the male driver was not located. Further investigation,revealed the car had been stolen from a business on Sun - coast Drive East. Investigation is continuing in an effort to deter- mine the identity of the driver. Please don't make your vehi- cle a target for a crimi- nal. Always secure your vehi- cle and remove all valuables. Traffic stop leads to drug charge • On Decernber 8 at 3 a.m., a Huron OPP officer conducted a traffic stop of a Dodge Caravan on Albert Street, Central Huron. While speaking with the driver, the officer discovered a quantity of an illegal drug in the van. A 28 -year-old Huron East man has • been charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Sub- stance contrary to section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He will answer to the charge at the Ontario Court of Justice- Goderich on February 27, 2012. II turn loads • to drive under suspension charge On December 7 at 11:30 p.m. a Huron OPP officer stopped a minivan on Bethune. Crescent in Goderich. While at the road- side, the officer discovered the driver's licence was under suspension. A 33 -year- old man from Goderich, was charged with Drive While under Suspension con- trary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traf- fic Act. He will have to attend Provincial Offences Act Court — Goderich on Feb- ruary 7, 2012 to answer to the charge. Missing farm tractor On November 22, the Huron OPP received a report of a stolen tractor. A business from Quebec reported they purchased a red 2011 model 125 HP Case IH Maxxum Series farm tractor valued at S85,000 from a business located in Huron East. The purchaser then made arrange- ments to have the tractor shipped by a third party shipper based out of Quebec. On November 18, 2011 the transport company attended and signed the receipt for trans- portation and left with the tractor. The purchaser has yet to receive the farm tractor.
