the $500 to raised funds, and
said the community was
almost unrecognizable.
"While we were here we
were shocked to see the dev-

we were prepared for. Before
we left, we told the mayor
that we were going to do
something. We had no: idea
what it was going to be, but
we were going .to do

The FCRA hosts an annual
event titled 'Campvention',
staged in various locations
throughout Canada and the
US. Hicks says the FCRA
includes more than.5,000
'family members' throughout
North America, including 400
Ontario members. Previously
staged in Blyth in 2006, Cam-
pventian is -scheduled to
return to the Blyth. Recreation

entertainment troupe to the arta a few
days in advance for a public concert. Of
the 1,300 tickets available, the FCRA
said it expects to sell 100 per cent at a
cost of $20 each, all of which will be put
toward tree regeneration.
"Since we, already rented the whole
facility which includes the arena, a
stage, sound system, we thought the
opportunity existed for us to do some-
thing to help Goderich. When we were
in Blyth In 2006, some of our folks cane
up to this town Our folks from Canada
and the US know about Goderich,"
Hicks said. •
The FCRA is a North American
organization that aims to share fun,
friendship, fellowship and family feel-
ings of camping together and to pro-
mote and enhance the experience and
enjoyment of recreational family type
camping and RVing. "ihe FCRA has been
around since 1949 and is the largest
international family camping associa-
tion in North America. Billed as Cana-
da's largest traveling Barn Dace, the His-
torical Society aims preserve the
memory of the builders, musicians and
entertainers who were featured over the
years on the CKNX Barn Dance and on
radio and TV shows including Serenade
Ranch, Western Roundup, Circle 8
Ranch, Good Time Country and others,
which were broadcast from the CKNX
facilities over the years.
"The overall theme for what the
money [raised) will be used for has-
been narrowed it down to Natural Her-
itage, because [the FCRA has expressed]
concern for the trees we've lost," said
Goderich. Mayor Deb Shewfelt. "For me,
this turns out to be extra special,
because It's really the first event focused
on the natural heritage."
'The July 12 concert is expected to
span two hours, and has volunteer and
other support from FCRA members and
the municipality of North Huron.
