December 3 for Goderlch's
Knox Presbyterian Church and
Breakfast With Santa, the event
for all the children of the town,
no matter their age.
Parents, grandparents and
great grandparents share the fun of
a social breakfast with friends, fam-
ily and neighbours. The children do
crafts, sing with the choristers and
sit on Santa's knee to tell him their
wishes for the season. The event is
part of the Christmas tradition in
Goderich.
Started 15 years ago as an event
to remember Sue Munnoch, and
give financial support to the Wom-
en's Shelter on whose board she
served, children of 'sit -on -his -knee'
age are now back with their own
wee ones. And the adults who
come meet and greet friends from
years past. There will be the raffle
table of items donated and crafted
for the event, songs and carols, our
favourite clown and the usual great
breakfast, with coffee endlessly.
stpone jail closure MPP Thompson says

closure of the Walkerton and Owen

community stakeholder consultations
have been completed and the cost -
benefit analysis has been released to
the community. The Minister said
point blank that. the Liberals would
not postpone the closure.
"This community, at the very least,
deserves some answers," said
Thompson. "Rural Ontario is already
facing economic instability, and now
this Liberal government will not
commit to keeping local jobs."
The Ministry of Community
Safety and Correctional Services has
slated the Jail for closure on Decem-
ber 4, 2011, without completing the
local community stakeholder con-
sultations that were promised when
the closure was announced earlier
this year. Additionally, the cost -ben-

ence to justify that jail closure.
"I -have to assume that the Liberal
government will not release the
cost -benefit analysis for the Walker-
ton and Owen Sound jails because
it does not exist; said 'Thompson.
Two weeks ago, Thompson submit-
ted her own Freedom of Information
requests to the Ministry of Commu-
nity Safety and Correctional Services
asking for the list of local stakeholders,
and the costing documents that
support the closure. Thompson also
intends to table a motion to ensure
that mandatory stakeholder consulta-
tions take place before a provincially
run institution, like a jail, be ordered
for closure.
"Listening to the needs and con-
cerns of the community are impor-
tant and it appears as though the
Liberal government is prepared to
forge ahead with this ill-advised
plan without engaging those who
will be impacted most by this
closure; said Thompson.
