While speaking with a driver, an alert officer detected an odour of burnt marijuana coming from inside the stopped vehicle. The officer began to question the male driver about the odour. The driver then proceeded to hand over a Ziploc bag containing a small quantity of suspected marijuana. Further investigation revealed he was a suspended driver. As a result a 51 -year-old man from Huron East has been charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and one count of Driving while Suspended contrary to section 53 of the Highway Traffic Act. Possession of stolen motorcycle On Sunday, November 13, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a Huron County OPP officer stopped a motorcycle on Harriston Road east of Wroxeter. A check on the vehicle identification number revealed the 2003 Suzuki Katana had been reported stolen from Wellington County. During the investigation the driver provided a false name to the officer. With the assistance of Wingham Police Service the driver's real name was determined. A check on his driver's licence status determined he was also a prohibited driver. As a result, a 22 -year-old from Morris-Turnberry, ON .has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada, Operation while Disqualified contrary to section 259(4)(a) Criminal Code of Canada and Public Mischief contrary to section 140(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada. He will have to attend Ontario Court of Justice - Wingham on January 19, 2012 to answer to the charges. At approximately 12 p.m. on November 12 police were called to the church regarding the theft. Investigators learned the church was holding a luncheon and yard sale when the Impaired driving charge At approximately 3:15 a.m. on November 13, a Huron County OPP officer received a complaint from a concerned citizen of a possible impaired driver. The officer located the suspect vehicle on Queen Street, North Huron. The officer determined the driver had consumed alcohol and her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired.
