The win against Thedford was a big .the Pirates, putting them two points ahead of Dirty Dogs in the standings; Chris Abbey was able to go back. in net for Goderich after going down. hard against Petrolia with a groin injury. "What Abbey was able to do against Thedford was truly amazing playing in that much pain,' remarked Coach Trevor Bazinet. Chris McMurray opened thescoring for the Pirates with assist going to Jeff Sil- ver. Silver then :scored on the. powerplay with assists going to Matt MacPhee and Dave Meriam. Kyle Provily also scored on the power- play on a nice one -timer with assists going to Silver and MacPhee. Meriam scored the last Pirate goal. with the assist going to Glen McCarron and Mike Gillen. "We had a really strong game against Thedford eve- ryone worked real hard for that win," Bazinet said. Starting goal - tender Chris Abbey went down with a groin injury in the second period and was unable to continue playing. Leaving the duties to newly acquired goaltender Derick Mitchell who was recently released from Listowel Jr. B club. The Squires took advan- tage of the situation with Mitchell coming off the bench cold scoring 3 more goals in the second period to the Pirates one. Pirates goal scorer in the second period was Matt MacPhee assisted by line- mates Josh Gaynor and Kyle Williams. The Pirates were able to score two more goals in the third period but the Squires were able to bury three of their own making the final score 8-3. Goal scorers in the third period for the Pirates were Glen McCarron with assist going to Matt MacPhee and Dave Meriam. Dave Meriam scored on the power- play on a beautiful deflection off his knee with assists going to MacPhee with his third point of the night and Aaron Puffin. Up next for the Pirates are their new archrivals the Komoka Classics this Friday night at 8:30pm at the MRC. The Pirates have some- thing of a bone to pick with the Classics, after they released Silver without dis- closing a suspension result- ing in an overturned win for the Pirates' season opener. The team record is cur- rently 3 wins 6 losses, sitting in eighth place - just 2 points behind Monkton and Clinton. Komoka is cur- rently in 2nd place with a record of 7 wins and 2 losses. Kinsmen Peewee AE Sailors win pair On Friday, November4, the Kins- men Peewee AE Sailors hosted the Mitchell Meteors AE team at the Mait- land Recreation Centre in a closely contested 4-2 wi n. Mitchell opened the scoring late in the first, holding a 1-0 lead after one period. Early in the second, Ryan Lynch lifted a rebound over the Mitch- ell goalie, assisted by Justin Leitch. Kyle Larkin skated in from the point and send a shot through the five -hole; to give the Sailors, a 2-1 lead at the break. :Mitchell .scored early in the third period to tie things titp, but Breeden Duncan one -timed a Mitchell Ryan. pass into the top of the net, with just two minutes remaining in the game for the eventual winner. Final score, 4-2 Sailors. On Nov. 6, the Elma Logan Rep team was at the Memorial Arena for what ended up being a hard-hitting physi- cal hysi- cal game. Both teams came out hitting and there was no score after the first period. In the second, the Sailors exploded, scoring six unanswered goals to salt away the game. Early in the period, Duncan showed some hard work in front of the. Elma Logan net, firing in a rebound off a Chris Govier shot to open the scoring. Two minute later, Duncan scored his second goal of the game, finishing off a pass from Govier and Dwyer Brown. Noah Connelly got a power -play goal to make it 3-0 Sail- ors when he fired in a loose puck from the slot. Leitch showed his breakaway skills, scoring the Sailors fourth goal, when the Elena Logan goalie couldn't get a handle on. the shot. Duncan com- pleted his hat trick, putting in another. rebound, this time the assist went to Ryan Lynch. Govier: put a rebound past the Elma Logan goalie with just one minute left in the period ofOwain Sykes and Troy Peters: Leitch scored the only goal of the third period, his second of the game, assisted by Lynch. This was a well- earned shutout for Tanner Merkley, who made several key saves that allowed the .offence to warm up. The defence of Brown, Peters, Larkin and Gerber played two fantastic games and the offence seems to be gelling.
