The preparation required the Choristers to concentrate on good diction, blend of tone and balance - all important facets of a good choir. In the following years the Choristers won the Kitchener competi- tion several times. Over the years the choir has increased its numbers. From the original 16 ( one of that group is still with the Choristers), to a peak of sev- enty-five in 1995 and more recently numbering fifty members. The Choristers practice Thurs- day mornings at the MacKay Centre. The original purpose which continues today is "to enjoy singing, to enjoy those who are singing, to learn more about choral sing- ing and to bring enjoyment to others through performance". During the past twenty-eight years the Choristers have performed throughout the province, from the Seaforth Fair to Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto. As well, they have participated in many choral exchanges with other choirs. The group has had the benefit of working with vari- ous excellent clinicians during workshops. In addition they perform annually at local nursing homes and regularly participate in the Sound of Goderich. The Choristers enjoy working together and the challenge of producing a " Cabaret" locally every few years. The year 1993 was a special year for the MacKay Choristers as U.S. composer Don Besig travelled from Buffalo NY to Goderich, on the invitation of Irla Stewart, to conduct a full day music workshop. That evening Besig directed the choir in concert. He was so impressed with the calibre of the choir that upon returning home he and his lyricist, Nancy Price, composed a song dedicated to Irla Stewart and the MacKay Choristers entitled "Say It Liz Tolchard policy turns SB surplus into deficit 11 • in accounting policy has von Maitland District School • accumulated surplus of $68 an accumulated deficit of $38 ciuded with a draft of the nsolidated financial state - he board's Nov. 8 meet - ed that several accounting ave resulted in a revised the board's original Aug. 2010 ed surplus of $68,661,146. .890,610 transfer to deferred • buttons, the revised figure 0 is an accumulated defidt of . er; finandal services admin - : i that the amount llam- a result of Public Sector Board (PSAB) policy and Ministry of Education direction. Liz Tolchard is also the director of the Goderich Harbouraires, who likewise will be performing at the Sound of Goderich.
