The Huron County Toy Ride is all set to take off on October 16, and marks the launch of the Huron -Perth CAS Christmas Bureau season. Event organizer Don Broadfoot says what better way to enjoy the sights of the Huron autumn than on board a bike in support of kids. "It gives an opportunity for motorcyclists to show they care in their community," Broadfoot said September 30. "We didn't think we'd be able to ride around the Square in Goderich, but it turn out we can so it's an opportunity to also take in what has happened in the community." To take part, riders are asked to meet at the Canadian Tire parking lot area armed with a new, unwrapped toy at 12 noon before the pack departs. With the help of numerous event sponsors including A&W, the Albion Hotel, Canadian Tire, Crabby Joe's and Platnum Powersports, there will be food specials following the ride, as well as prizes for the `Best Decorated Motorcycle." Its inaugural launch in 2009 resulted in 75 motorcycles, 93 riders and a loaded pickup bed filled with new toys. In 2010, more than 120 motorcycles took part, and Broadfoot said he hopes 2011 will be even more successful. The Ride will proceed rain or shine.
