n struggled to emerge with
very plan out of the rubble
do aftermath, and as offers
of help, support and financial donations
poured into town, there wasn't a clear
process in place to handle or channel it
all.
That is all becoming more crystallized
and fundraising and relief efforts are
making significant and substantial
gains, with people working more closely
together while understanding the roles
of various fundraisers and
organizations.
With a clearer mandate in hand, and.
working closely with the Goderich and
Area Disaster Relief Assistance Program
(ODRAP), EdgeFund principals Hussey,
and Rick and Randall Lobb, see the fund
evolving and playing a pivotal role In
certain areas of funding for community
betterment.
"What Marcie wants to see is a small
project fund that can do topping up and
the advantage for people to donate is
that their donation can be earmarked
for trees, heritage or cultural events not
funded through ODRAP,' Randall Lobb
said. "She likes the idea of a maximum
amount of impact with the fund on the
widest area."
The fund is helping to front the Out of
the Storm mega concert scheduled for
Courthouse Park, Saturday Oct. 8, pro-
viding financial assistance to get the
concept in motion.
"We had a vision to have a concert on
The Square on the damaged part of the
park," Lobb said. "From Bluesfest and
Taste of Huron, Out of the Storm devel-
oped and people like the Kinsmen
needed funds to start the process."
EdgeFund will have a prominent pres-
ence at Out of the Storm and their booth
will encourage people to tape their mes-
sages and reminiscences of the tornado
that will be incorporated into a docu-
mentary, a feature length film the group
will be producing. They are also looking
for photos to produce a book.
"We want people to share their stories
and tell their personal story of the tor-
nado: Hussey said. "all the proceeds
from these ventures will go to ODRAP.
We are working with them and our
funding will come into play after insur-
ance and ODRAP have been dealt but
haven't covered the entire cost of
replacement."
Edgefund is getting its application
process in place and the mechanics of
providing financial assistance where a
need is evident. "We want to eliminate
any negativity associated with the fund
and show people we are part of the
rebuilding picture," Hussey said.
"Beyond raising money, with the film
we ant to keep awareness alive and
reach a broad market out of the area to
remind people of what residents in
Goderich went through.
"It's all about our cominunity and the
people and their resilience to get
through this."
