Every day is a crapshoot of uncertainty. The provincial election unfolding before the Oct. 6 election is a bit of a reflection on the eco- nomic instability of the world. Things change day-to-day and it's difficult to sort through the information to make an accurate determination on the state of issues. Clarity and honesty would go a long way in financial and political matters in helping the average guy stickhandle through life. As the party leaders headed for the televised debate Thesday night, the electorate had heard about all the new policies each party would intro- duce, the new programs, tax cuts and the advan- tages and: opportunities they will create for families. While each party has touted the benefits of its new plans and programs, each instills a fear in us about the prospects for Ontario if one of the other parties was elected. We've come, through some difficult economic times and the prospects for the world economy range from stagnant to grim. This province has suffered through the lossof about 300,000 manu- facturing jobs, most of which has been regained. All parties are talking about waste and expense cutting to save taxpayers' money. The truth is that jobs and services will be lost and to achieve that and one man's waste is another's essential pro- gram or service. No party has answers or even well -crafted plans for what lies ahead. Unrealistic economic promises that call for spending cuts and spend - Ing increases are mere gambles, a rolling of the dice during election hype season. What it all distills down to is tnist in leadership. Take a look at the leaders of the parties and determine for yourself who you think has the experience and can be trusted to run the prov- ince through difficult times. Tough decisions will have to be made and experience and accounta- bility should be determining factors. Change for the sake of change does little but shuffle the burden of uncertainty onto the shoul- ders houl-ders of new players. The same logic and option applies in the riding. We need capable and accountable leadership at this level as well. It's an .important decision. The final decision rests with the voters, but aside from everything you have heard through the campaign, whatever party is elected will have a tough job with equally tough decisions to. make. It's all about leadership and who you think you can trust to do the job. Ours had a Liberal election pamphlet between the Walmart and Giant Tiger flyers. In that pamphlet ft claims 1 David Suzuki endorse what Mr. McGulnty has done absolutely! This is a great plan. July 20, 2011', What's David doing and why is he say- ing something like that? David knows that McGuinty's green plan includes building NEW gas fired hydro generation plants right now and will have to build many more to backup those industrial wind tur- bines and solar farms for those windless and sunless days we get. David Suzuki has been saying along that gas generated electricity is bad for our health. On Suzuki's website it says "77 per cent of particulates from natural gas plants are dangerously small. These fine particu- lates have the greatest impact on human health because they by-pass our bodies' natural respiratory filters and end up deep in the lungs. In fact, many studies have found no safe limit for exposure to these substances." So does this now mean it's ok to harm everyone in Ontario? It certainly sounds like that to me. Is this what you want your provincial government to do? Instead of making the air cleaner as McGuinty claims, he is making it even WORSE and David Suzuki thinks that FINE! As if we don't already have enough stacked against us with dirty coal electrical plants, the possibly of nuclear radiation leaks from nuclear power plants, long waiting times at hospitals, hydro costs being TOO expensive, a provincial debt that's absolutely scary and the list can go on and on. It istime for a change. We need a gov- ernment that will stop this madness. Charley Urbanek, Port Etin NDPs understand nuclear issue To the editor: In response to Tom Podsiadlo's letter which warns us that the NDP "shut down reactors during their term in office in the early 90s and they will do it again", it was actually during Mike Harris' PC govern- ment that the plug was pulled on Bruce A. Mike Harris became Premier on June 26th, , 1995. Unit 2 was to be the first unit to be laid up on October 8th, 1995. By April of 1998, all four Bruce A units were down along with all four Pickering A units. I'll stick with the candidate that sticks to and understands all of the issues which affect us here in Huron -Bruce, including nuclear. Thankyou to Mr. Podsiadlo for providing an excellent example of the attack politics that Canadians are about fed up with. I'll be voting for Grant Robert- son on Oct. 6th.'
