Wednesday, September 28, 2011 • Goderich Signal -Star 31 Dominique Milburn Gotten ch -Star Avon calling Overwhelmed by the devastation in the community, Avon representatives from throughout southern Ontario felt compelled to do something to help the Goderich community. What resulted is the donation of more that 600 care packages filled with Avon products to benefit affected families. "What we decided to do is what we do everyday," said Avon District Manager Janet Larcombe, "which is help women everywhere feel a iitt a bit better.,, Gathered at the Suncoast Mall on September 24 were donations enough for 328 families boxed up and ready to be distributed, Larcombe said, with another 300 families worth waiting to be packaged. "The response from our representatives was overwhelming," Larcombe said Saturday. "These donations have come in from Hanover, Stratfrod, kitchener Waterloo, London, Sarnia — It's been amazing." Care packages include "everyday essentials," and will be distributed through ttw St. Vent de Paul organization in Werth. MUNICIPAL AND MARINE HERITAGE COMMITTEE I1)1 II11 PRA ►li( I 1.1<4t\I( )11 LET'S MAKE•TIIISCIEAR The Municipal and Marine Heritage Committee offers its support and understanding to all residents in this time of loss. We are dealing with applications as quickly as they are presented to us. We would like to clarify the heritage status of properties and the regulations involving changes. Categories of Heritage Structures Properties in these categories have been published in the Municipal Register which the province requires the town to create and maintain. 1 individually Designated Properties of which there- are 40 in. Goderich DEMOLITION Cat. 1 and 1.1 properties may not be demolished without a Demolition Permit from the Building Dept. and a Heritage Permit ( accompanied by an architect's report), recommended by the Heritage Committee and issued by Council. Application for both these permits is made through the. Building Department at Town II Heritage C'onserrvation Districts Hall. Council has 90 days to make of which there are two districts made a decision about demolition. but up of about 70 street addresses. in practice decisions are much quicker. III Potentially Significant or Listed Properties of which there are approximately 200 addresses. These are properties with possible architectural, cultural or historic value but have not been formally designated. In the current situation it is very unlikely , that the full allotted time would be used, if al all. Cat. 1 properties, in order to alter, repair or rebuild, need a Building Permit and a Heri- tage Permit. Application is to be made on the customary forms. Council normally has 90 days to make a decision about applications but in practice decisions are much quicker. Cat. II properties must comply to the above plus applications must be accompanied by an architect's report due to the interconnectedness with neigh- bouring properties. Cat. 11I properties, in orderto alter, repair or rebuild need a Building Permit.
