Lions clubs top up tornado relief fund
Lucan, lldc'rton clubs help
local fund drive
Lions clubs from across the district are digging
deep to assist their service club colleagues in
Goderich.
the Goderich Lions Club teamed up with the
Goderich Fire Department and raised over
$20,000 in a one -day toll on Highway 21
on Victoria Street. That same day, the
lions raised over $6,00 at various store
locations.
Of course interest from other clubs is
pouring in and the Goderich club
would like donations to come through
them since they can issue a charitable
donation receipt.
Last week, the Lucan Lions came to
Goderich, toured the tornado damaged.
area with local club members, and
made a $10,000 donation for disaster
relief effort.
Also last week, John Garrett, a former
resident of Goderich who worked as the
assessment commissioner for the
Huron -Perth Asessement office,
brought a donation to town hall from
the Ilderton inions Club for $.1,000.
The former resident also made a per-
sonal donation to the fund.
Goderich President Doug Fines, said
the club will be making know its dona-
tion in the corning weeks.
Couple denied access
to turbine information
Drennans fight to learn
about turbine health issues
Shawn and Trisha Drennan are land-
owners facing a pending windfarm
project known as Kingsbridge II. Kings-
bridge II will consist of upwards of 150
turbines one of which will be as close as
approximately 650 meters from their
home.
Twelve more turbines will be located
within the surrounding two kilometers.
After learning that eleven families living
amongst two different wind projects
(one located in their neighbouring town-
ship) had their homes purchased by
wind companies, the Drennan' sought
to gather key information from these
former residents about the adverse
health and safety effects of the wind tur-
bines. However, they learned that as a
part of the buyout agreements, these res-
idents were blocked from discussing any
negative experiences with the wind tur-
g
biner; including adverse health effects.
The Drennans, supported by the com-
munity group S.W.E.A.R. (Safe Wind
Energy for All Residents) will go to Court,
asking the Court to invalidate the non-
disclosure clauses which pg their neigh-
bours as fundamentally against the pub-
lic interest.
