Otherwise, all local municipalities should expect a 2-3% municipal tax increase. If the Progressive Conservative (PC) party is elected, Tim Hudak has promised to delay the jail closings until they conduct their own review. The PC party offers political hope but being so deep into the closing proc- ess, all that is keeping these two jails open for now is the election. With this matter los on the PC platform, this may or may not save the two local jails. The New (Democratic Party (NDP) has already :done their homework. and announced that they will main- tain local services and keep bothjails T open if elected. Over the next two weeks, menthe, of the Knights were constantly at the Columbus Centre providing support and assistance to the emergency agencies, workers and victims. The Knights of Columbus provided the environment in which the recovery efforts were able to take place. 4'.411,114i- Family Coalltion Party rong Families = Au Strong Ontario CHRISTINE SCHNURR Huron Bruce www.familycoalitionparty.com thorized by the CFO for the Chltine Schnurr FCP Campaign Paul Johnstone, the Bruce -Grey - Owen Sound NDP candidate have both been very active participants and supporters since the jail closure announcement was made on March 29th, attending Queen's Park and numerous local meetings and functions. Despite two committee meetings and much attempted communica- tion with the Liberal Party and incumbent Carol Mitchell over the past six months, her involvement to date has been veru disappointing, limited and ineffective. Despite pro- viding information showing that it will actually cost more to transport inmates than keep these jails open, it does not appear that she supports this cause or has much influence in her party's policy or decision- making. There are many issues that sway a person's vote one way or another on flection Day. This jail issue is just one of them. But make no mistake; any vote for Carol Mitc=hell is a vote to close the Walkerton Jail, For those concerned about the future of Cor- rections in Mid -Western Ontario, your decision on October 6th counts and could be as easy as ABC Any- body But Carol. On Tuesday, September 6t the school gathered in the gym for this year's opening assembly, where the theme of hands up was introduced. This theme is to go "hand in hand" with last year's theme of "be included, be inclusive" by encouraging each individ- ual to participate and share their school spirit. The goal is to inspire all students to put their hands up to God in faith, to raise their hands in class and participate, to get their hands up in fitness and physical wellness, and to give a hand up to those in need of aid, rather than a hand out. Student Cabi- net had the school community energized and excited for the new school year through their engaging presentation for their fellow students, a clever performance of "Parin the STA': The fall sports teams at St. Anne'shave already began practices and tryouts, including the cross country team, field hockey, tennis, golf, basketball, and volleyball, a con- tinuation of the busy teams and clubs that ended of the last school year. As well, the "Me to We" group will be coming together once again, arid recruiting new students in their upcoming meetings. Student Cabinet encourages the grade nine students to bring their spirit to school events and have their voices heard by signing up to run for grade nine representative. On Friday, September 9, Grade 9 orientation day was organized so that students may become familiar with their peers and begin new friendships that could last their entire high school careers. A very special fundraiser is being held at St. Anne's, the "Help Clean up Goderich" campaign, where students are asked to give a hands up to the local community and bring in cleaning supplies as well as monetary donations which will be given to Sty Vincent de Paul in Goderich, rc'liil t' areal!! ill ale heart 01.1)111/field Introducing Alaina Martin, RMT Hello!! 1 graduated from Sutherland -Chan School and leaching Clinic in 2003.
