ecial meeting
Sept..7, the timer -
act Group rnet and
agreed that extension of the
state of emergency was in the
town's best interest.
Mayor Deb Shewfelt said
that while the works depart-
ment has cleared streets and
most debris from downed
trees, there is still some work
to be done.
He said the move does not
restrict the town's plans to
open The Square Friday
(today) but that the extension
keeps volunteers covered for
Workers Compensation
Insurance.
"We're going to be opening
The Square but there are still
volunteers working in areas
around town and under a State
of Emergency they are covered
in case anything happens;' he
said. "We want to err on the
side of caution and will keep it
in place."
Works superintendent Chip
Wilson said that most trees
have been removed from town
streets and properties and
work crews have been trim-
ming and removing branches
and debris. The Square has
been cleared and the concrete
barriers will be removed.
The Square opened Friday.
Also, Parks superintendent,
Martin Quinn reported to
council at its Sept. 8 meeting
that the Maitland Cemetery
gates were to open that day.
Crews were removingfour
large trees before the cemetery
was clear for traffic.
He said there was minimal
damage to tombstones but
that many trees were downed,
especially in a 30 acre area
beyond the cemetery.

The Emergency Contact Group met in a special session at town
hall last week to discuss extending the State of emergency in
Godench. The group reasoned it was in the town's best interest
to have the state of emergency extended to Sept. 16.

JOHN
JOHN JEFFERY AND SON
LUMBER AND BUILDING SUPPLIES
Serving the community since 1947
Dear Friends,
We would like to extend our most sincere THANK YOU
to everyone who helped at John Jeffery and Son in the
aftermath of August 21, 2011 and continue to help in
so many ways.
A special thank you to our customers and neighbours
at home and at the shop that have supported us for so
many years and who rallied around us to help pick up
the pieces.
We would also like to give an enormous THANK YOU to
RONA for their team of angels who came from all over
Ontario to lend a hand. They walked in when it was
almost impossible to gain access and knew exactly
what to do when we were still too overwhelmed to
know ourselves. They were the perfect people for the
job because they know how to handle lumber and they
didn't leave until they were sure they could do no more.
You have our most sincere appreciation; your help
during this trying time will never be forgotten.
Thank you also to everyone that moved through the
yard with food and treats to fortify us during those days;
friends and neighbours, businesses and strangers.
Your kind words and generosity gave us strength to
carry on.
Finally we want to wish the entire community the best
of luck moving forward. Our thoughts are with you all.
Sincerely
HAROLD AND NORMA JEFFERY AND FAMILY
