The damage to the buildings in that block was less severe and some of the businesses were able to open to the public. The mayor announced that vehicular traffic would resume on The Square later on Friday. It marked the first time in almost three weeks since the F3 tornado swiped a 500 metre path through the town, that anyone had been in the restricted core area. Courthouse Park will likely remain closed until it can be cleaned up this week. "This is a big step," mayor Shefelt said. We are not victims we are survivors and we will move ahead." "We all owe great thanks to the first responders and the front-line people who helped us get through this. They got us going again. "It is amazing that we are able to open for some business" The state of emergency remains in place until Friday, Sept. 16 to enable the town and volunteers to continue with cleanup efforts. On Thursday, Sept 15, two Naval ships, HMCS Shawinigan and HMCS Summerside will arrive in port at 8 a.m. to raise awareness among Canadians of their Navy and to highlight career opportunities.
