After the deadly tornado of August 21 ripped tht(nigh the
community, many of the totvii's businesses have teniporar,
ily closed down, reduced services. or relocated to outlying.
areas. As cleanup roll; along, Marshall says the town still:
has its popular tourist destinations available for visitors.
"Ou"r waterfront is a little bent, hut it's still there," Mar-
shall said September 1.
Lakeshore business operations including they Lake
House fish wagon, Beach Hut and Wheelhouse are cur-
rently closed down, however the natural landscape was
snared significant damage during the 1'3 storm. Marshall
says tree branches have been knocked around, and .por
tions of the boardwalk sustained slight abuse. but the lake
is still accessible.
,'We're encouraging people to come hack to visit," he
said, "1 think people have been staving away and assume
everything is closed. "I he only thing that isn't open is the
downtown core. We ve .still got our museums, beach, trail;,
outlying restittrritr1tS .incl
accommodations.
(;oderich has bad its fair share of
visitors 1n the wake of the August
storm. 'Groups and individuals poured •
into the community in .the days fol-
lowing, and ct)111it1Ue to return to aid
in vt)Itinteer clean tip efforts. (Others
have come, says Marshall, to take in
the devastation first-hand and offer
their condolences for Victims.
"We really value people's visits.
Ernotions are running high these
days, but we're• so thankful that peo
pie have come to town to heli us out.
All we ask is that visitors respect the
work underwav in areas in
rescove'rv.'

While there was wind damage along the town's waterfront and to the Sifto Salt Mine in the north harbour, the
town's waterfront was cleaned up and ready for visitors before the long holiday weekend.
