The town is now officially inthe recovery stage and attempts to rebuild, recharge and reconstruct are in the works. There is a long and arduous journey ahead on the road to recovery and it will be difficult to stay committed and stay on task. 'I he streets are clear of debris, the roads are. open, most of the power and gas has been restored to residents and life is slowly return- ing to some semblance of normalcy, if that is an achievable state. The flood of assistance that came to town was necessary, remarkable and appreciated. It dearly demonstrated the goodwill of people and the effectiveness of emergency planning. 'She biggest obstacles are now paving the way for businesses, industry and homeown- ers to begin the recovery and rebuilding process. "Things take time and there are always proc- esses and procedures but people now need the resources to carryon with and rebuild their lives. A majorpart of the recovery will be the fun- draising effort and the disbursement of funds and insurance monies to assist in reconstruction. 'the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Pro- gram will play a key role in providing funds over and above insurance coverage and major assistance in cases where insurance may not r be in place. Me members of the publicwho have com- mitted to serve their community are to be conirnended. Their job will not hewn easy one but will demand all of their skills and time. Blit the skills available within the members of that committee are considerable. Money will come into this town but it needs to get to people quickly and it needs to get to those win most need. 'there cannot be groups working or fund- raising at cross, purposes as the focus and direction of recovery and rebuilding efforts must be clear and must be positive. So many jobs and lives are at stake in this recovery process but all things are possible with a collective will and determination. The future is decidedly different but there is a future. it is up to us to determine exactly what we want it to look like.
