"There are some folks who
will not give other than to their.
pet causes," Ryall cautioned
the group. "If other groups
want to spend money on -spe-
cific items get out of their
way.
"You cannot take allocated
dollars."
Fundraising chair I'or Jas-
per expressed concern that a
two-pronged approach may
already be in place, with the
heritage -minded EDGE Fund
already mobilized and gather-
ing donations.
There is much ambiguity
surrounding the $5 million
already offered by the prov-
ince, however half that amount
has been advanced for public
costs. Me other $2.5 million is
set aside for private costs.
While the group. is set to hire
administrative staff and space,
those costs are borne entirely
by the province, and will not
come out .of any of the money
donated to ODRAP. Examples
of staff would be program
directors, who would take the
c $aims and follow up to survey
the damage reported, secre-
tary, .treasurer and claims
adjusters if needed.
Ryall introduced two experi-
enced program managers to
the committee: John Maddox,
a retired regional director for
the MMAII and Bruce Leacock.
who has provided services at
most provincial disaster sites
since Walkerton in 2000. Both
have extensive experience with
ODRAP.
Leacock explained the pro-
gram manager's job is to act as
a buffer between applicants
and the committee, and
stressed that time is of great
importance.
Advertisments for committee
jobs as well as timelines for fun-
draising and applications were
the topic of a secondary meet-
ing Thursday, September 1.
However, Ryall noted it will
not be like raising money for
the CT Scanner - there is no.
pricetag associated with disas-
ter relief. Whatever the com-
mittee raises, the province
»atches as needed.
Following the meeting, Jas-
per
as-
per noted one of the biggest
challenges is the short time -
frame, coupled with the fact
that distribution of funds can't
take place until that is
completed.
Central I.luron and Ashfield
Colborne-Wawanosh were
also considering declaring
states of emergency for the
affected areas of their munici-
palities, and as such, could be
adding members to the
ODRAP committee.
