This year 2011 we will not beholding our annual parade; instead we will he joining the Grey- Bruce Labour Council in Port Elgin for their celebration on Labour 1)ay September fifth. One of our estab- lished traditions has been a free pub lic barbecue at which we discovered the depth of poverty in Huron County. In celebration of Labour Day and in keeping with our tradition the I luron District Labour Council will donate one thousand dollars the thir- teen operating food hanks in Huron County. Dale Matthies Cathy's Cove Cathy Cove This is notthe. column I had planned to write today. 1 had planned to pick up on the senti- ments of those letters to the editor of late that tried to impress upon the usual suspects to stop bickering with one another, and use the responsibility given thein to bring communityentities together for one purpose - to chart a united and viable future. We could not imagine that in a' few short minutes Mother Nature did for us what neither our elected representa- tives, administration, committees or organizations could do in years - bring the whole ton, not just parts of it, together to help build our future. When the first photos of the devasta- tion on The Square began to surface the tears carne quickly as I couldn't make out exactly what :1 was looking at and from which direction: My breath was taken away when looking at the picture window view of the elevators, harbor and opposite shoreline that had been created at Har- bour Park that just last week was shrouded in sweet summer shade from stately old trees. I marveled, like many at how the tor- nado seemed to use' our compass -like design of our down town to its advan- tage as it cruised The Square like so many of us have done so mann times.
