Just a thought and maybe it has already been considered but 1 am quite sure that the majority of these displaced employees are able bod- ied and more than willing to help their neighbours. Could some of the Provincial Funds available for disaster relief be redirected into paying these people for assisting with the rebuild of the town until the plants get back up and run- ning? 1 am quite sure that the vol- unteers that are working side by side with these people would not be concerned if these people were being paid. This would help them through this troubling time. Just a thought. Fred Ryckman Lakeside Goderich is beautiful with the best people too To the Wonderful Community of Goderich Ontario: 1 am still in shock at the news of the horrible devastation you have all endured. In fact, when I read the news about the tornado, it took more than just a few moments to really sink in. As! write this today, 1 am still in disbelief. Over the past few days, I have had the opportu- nity to speak with many friends in Goderich about what happened, and the events that have taken place since then. Based on these conversations, I see a community that has so quickly transcended beyond the physical loss and has come together to support one another in such an impressive manner. When I heard that not one person needed to use the generos- ity of the Knights of Columbus for shelter, my heart was immediately filled with warmth. This incredible little town that I was proud to call home for 6 years came together to ensure that no one was left alone or stranded in the wake of this destruction, It has been a long time since I have heard a story of such compassion and generosity. Since I left in 2008, t have always held a very special place for Goderich, and I have had the opportunity to return for several visits since then. Each time I returned, I was always reminded of the amazing spirit of the people that live there. This is something! miss greatly, and t am so happy to see that when push comes to shove, you all look after each other with- out a second thought. It is this characteristic of Goderich that has impressed me the most. Goderich is now on the national stage, and I have no doubt in my mind that it will re-emerge as a www.goderichsignalstar.com Community news: Dominique Milburn email: gssnewsebowesnet.com News Sports Special Sections truly beautiful town filled with the best people in the world. I hope to see you when! return again soon fora visit. Dr. Balaji Swaminath We're broken but not unbowed To the editor: My town is in tatters and the loss r-ofound. However the response by town offlcials, emergency personnel and common citizens has been truly remarkable. At AMG hospital ,in short order ,it was pall hands on deck" with nurses, doctors and health care workers all fully pre- pared to deal with injuries. Many came immediately to help despite damage to personal property and uncertainty. It makes me feel very proud of our hospital and town. Goderich may be temporarily broken but we remain unbowed.
