What is planking, anyway?
More than 350 pilgrims from southwestern Ontario, 100 or so from
Huron -Perth, have gathered in Madrid to celebrate Word Youth Day
2011. While in the streets of Spain, many took a moment to join
one of the latest Internet buzz, planking. Planking has become a
worldwide phenomenon. The Internet meme has been described
as a game, social activity, and even a sport. Planking is essentially
impersonating a plank. A planker lies facedown; arms held close
to the body, legs held stiffly together, in the pose of a stiff plank of
wood. Recently in the news, Hugh Heffner and Richard Simmons
have joined in on the planking craze, and even television news
casters themselves have opened segments as stiff as a board.

This is the fifth year for the Bluewater Campground's annual golf tournament, and the participants are giving
back in a big way to two area hospitals. The tournament, held August 6 at the Bluewater Golf Course outside
Bayfield, raised $4,150, which was split between the Clinton Public Hospital and the AMGH Keeping Abreast
Campaign in Goderich. "We are very aware of how close we are to both these hospitals," said Beth Gleadall.
Gleadall gives much credit to both Deb and Paul Jeffery for spearheading the tournament, which to date has
raised more than $30,000. The golfers also have may thanks for the staff at Bluewater Golf for making the
tournament possible.
