rganizer, Shawn Dren -
shfield-Colborne-
. lie says his personal
ce learning about
ensures in the industry
have raised more questions than
answers.
"I'm for safe wind, but the gov-
ernment can't tell us what that is
yet,'" Drennan said Saturday. For
me, I know I need a baseline of
what noise [generation will be
coming to my area with the Kings-
bridge II (K2) project]. I've asked,
but haven't received any
answers"
Drennan said it's the lack of
proven information and answers
that have many area residents
questioning the real value,
adverse or not, of the wind
industry.
"[Lack of information] makes
me worried. 1 want to know if
[local projects} are in compliance
or not, and no one can tell me. It
seems the government is moving
ahead with these things while
studies are being done ... why not
wait for the results?"
For his part, Drennan resides
within 500 metres of a sub -station
planned in the proposed K2. The
270 -megawatt wind project
recently received the go-ahead
after parent company Capital
Power signed a power purchase
agreement with the Ontario
Power Authority. The agreement
is still subject to finalization,
including corporate and regula-
tory approvals, however, Capital
Power is expecting the project to
move ahead at a cost between
$750-900,000. The type and
number of turbines to be erected
in the K2 project area is still to be
determined.
Speakers at the event included
Dr. Glenn Fox, an Economist with
the university of Guelph, Ben
Lansick, a London -area real
estate appraiser, and Keith Stel-
ling of the Friends of Arran Lake
W.A. Group.
