visited for over Sunday with Mr. and

Mr, F. Buchanan is away on a trip

Mrs. Sydney Dolmage, of Seafortli,
was visiting for a few days with old
friends in town.
Mr. and Mrs J. D. MeKinley, of
Winnipeg were visiting this week at
former's parental home in town,
Mr. and Mrs. Stewart of Edmonton
are visiting with relatives and friends
in Wingham and district.
Messrs A. G. Smith and H. B. Elliott
were in Stratford on Friday last attend -
evening bas been postponed owing to ing a meeting of the Perth and Huron

— Mr. and Mrs. Thos. J'. Watt have
moved to town from Clinton and have
taken up their residence in their home
on Maple street. Many old friends will
welcome them back to Wingham.
— Mr. L. Kennedy delivered an Over -
and car on Tuesday to Col. Combe of
the 161st Battalion. This is the second
Overland the 161st bas purchased
from Mr. Kennedy.
— Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Tierney, "Orch-
ard Lodge," Blyth, Ont., announce the
engagement of their eldest daughter,
Margaret Louise, to Dr. J. A. McTag-
gart, Blyth, the marriage to take place
this month.
— Mr. and Mrs. R. T1 Kemp of Lis-
towel. Ont., announce the engagement
of their eldest daughter, Mabel Isabel,
to Mr. Robert Arnold Currie, of Wing -
ham, Ont. The marriage will take
early in July.
—The Victoria Day sports committee
of Clinton has handed over about $1,100
to Lieut. -Col. Combe of the 161.st Bat-
talion, to be used in buying mess tents
and other supplies for the needs of the
officers and men.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Walton McKibbon
are away this week attending the
annual meeting of the Canadian Ticket
Agents Association at Port Arthur.
Mr. Jas. Grieve, ex -M. P. for North
Perth was visiting last week with his
cousins, Mrs. Alex. Campbell and Mrs.
John Campbell.
Mr. R. V. Dunlop has taken a good
position at Preston and left for that
town on Tuesday. Mrs Dunlop will also
leave for her new home in a few days.
Mr. J. A. McLean, accompanied by
Mrs. McLean and Miss Margaret Mc-
Lean, are in Prescott this week
attending the annual meeting of the
Coal Dealers Association. The mem-
bers of the Association with their ladies
made the trip via boat from Toronto.
—At the recent meeting of the
Canadian Press Association in Toronto,
Mr. E. Roy Sayles, of the Port Elgin
Times, was re-elected chairman and
Mr. 3. J. Hunter, of the Kincardine
Reporter, was re-elected secretary of
the weekly section.
— The ladies of Wingham and
vicinity are cordially invited to attend
a Sock Shower at Mrs. J. P. Kennedy
on Saturday, June the seventeeth after-
noon and evening. The socks are for
the Wingham Detachment of the Huron
Battalion.
—Mr. T. Finnen, who has charge of
the race track this year will have the
track in shape for Saturday of this
week. Persons who wish to use the
track on which to train their horses cau
make arangements for the season with
Mr. Finnen.

Twenty Scottish lassies arrived at
Quebec to become brides of young men
from the old country in different parts
of Canada.
Sweden has been experimenting with
peat powder as a fuel for the locomotives
on state-owned railways and it is report-
ed that just as heavy trains can be pulled
and as good speed made with this fuel
as with anthracite. The Swedish Stat
Railway directors have asked experts
to give estimates of the costs of pre-
paring a bog for the manufacture of
peat powder.

Woman's Auxiliary meeting (this)
Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the
Parish Hall.
Holy Communion next Sunday at 8.30.
The Sunday School now meets in the
Parish Hall.
PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Regular services will be held in St.
Andrew's Presbyterian Church next
Sunday. The pastor, Rev. D. Perrie,
will preach at both services.
Jubilee services will be held on Sun-
day and Monday, June 25th and 26th.
Rev. Robt. Law, M. A., D. D., of
Toronto, will preach at both morning
and evening service. At 2.30 o'clock
on Sunday afternoon a children's rally
will be held at which Rev. Jas. Hastie,
the first pastor of the church and Mr.
R. D. Cameron, will deliver addresses.
The choir is preparing special music
for these services and the public is
cordially invited to attend.

The first Presbyterian church was
built in Wingham, near where the salt
works stands, during the summer of
1866, fifty years ago. A jubilee
souvenir booklet has been printed.

well as illustrations of the church,

different organizations as well as a
'number of the pioneer members of the
congregation. These booklets are to
sell at 50 cents each and are now on
