some residents in the Auburn area
were in danger of inadequate coverage.
For the past six months, the municipal-

27 at the Lucknow Fire Hall, along with Fire
Marsalls Advisor Tom Evered, and .Huron County
911 System Specialist Jason Dodds. Their goal was
to agree on a reasonable and workable recommen-
'dation as to fire department coverage in and
around the Auburn and Port Albert areas of ACW
that would be acceptable to both council members
and to the ratepayers of the Township.
Appearing before council at their May 17 meet
Lucknow Fire Chief Peter Steer presented their
joint recommendation.
With a map of the area in question, Steer
explained that the North Huron Fire Department
would be best suited for coverage of the area north
and west of Auburn, bounded by Glenns Hill Road
and Prosperity Line, and the Lucknow department
would take the reigns on properties north of the
area facing Glenns Hill. Also on Lucknow's list are
properties facing onto Prosperity Line from east
and west, then south to either Hawkins. or Nile
Road, depending on council's wishes. The joint
chiefs didn't venture westward into the Colborne
ward currently covered by Goderich Fire, Steer
said, because the area wasn't identified by
council.
According to Streer, the advisory group 'ham-
mered" at the recommendations for Auburn for
about four hours, and identified suggestions for
the Port Albert area should council choose to make
additional boundary adjustments.
On June 7, ACW Council agreed to amend the
areas of fire coverage in and around the Auburn
area. Bell Canada will make the necessary 911
number changes at the end of September, and
ACW Clerk -Administrator Mark Becker told
councillors he would ensure letters went out to
affected residents closer to the date.
Greener Living
The Township Council of Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh is backing the development of a Green
Transportation Plan.
Councillors agreed on August 2 to prepare and
adopt an environmentally conscience plan in col-
laboration with the Port to Point Trail Association.
The goal, says councillor and Port to Point Com-
mittee member Connie Black, is to have a com-
pleted plan drafted and ready to submit to the
Ministry of Transportation this fall. .
In discussingsome of the plan details, ACW
Clerk -Administrator Mark Becker said some
actions laid out by the committee may not be best
suited for the municipality's rural setting.
"One suggestion was we should ride a bicycle to
work," Becker said. "By the time I'd get here it
would be time to go home."
"It's a continuing thing," Coun. Black said. "We'll
work on the application for this fall."
Ws Time to Reunite
A little seed money is being planted in the bank
for the initial planning of a St. Helen's Reunion, in
the works for 2012.
"Come to the Village with the BIG Heart" boasts
the tagline for the 155th anniversary celebration
scheduled to take place July 7 and B, 2012. The cur-
rent planning committee requested a funding infu-
sion of $2,000 from ACW Council to cover immedi-
ate start-up costs, before their own fundraising
initiatives get underway. Council voted unani-
mously in favour of the sum.
