the community know about selection

ises to be an evening filled with beauti-
-- a great send off for local student and
eghan De Jager. After years of singing
ether at local festivals, church services,
r concerts, Meghan, a Goderich• native,
and long-time singing partner, Emily Van Veghel
of Kincardine, will collaborate one last time as
the Two Soprar►os concert makes its way to
Goderich.
The girls embarked on the Two Sopranos jour-
ney three years ago, as they sought some signifi-
cant and musical way to mark the end of Emily's
high school career and the beginning of her
musical studies at Wilfrid Laurier University. At
the prompting of their voice instructor, Jeanette
Steeves of Port Elgin, the idea of putting on a full
length concert was born. With help from Jean-
ette and their parents, the girls began research-
ing, choosing music, rehearsing, and publicizing
their event: -Kincardine United church was happy
to host that first concert in August of 2009, and
the crowd of about 150 was captivated' not only
by the girls' wonderful singing and mature stage
presence, but by their pianist's outstanding
work. Marian Pedwell of Southampton has been
accompanying the girls for years and
her performance that night was, as
always, brilliantly sensitive.
In 2010, the concert took place at
Southampton United Church, where
the sanctuary was once again filled
with appreciative audience members
from Bruce and Huron Counties. The
girls have gained a considerable fol-
lowing of Bruce County fans, as they
are both long time members and solo-
ists in the A Cappella Chamber Choir,
based in Port Elgin.
Meghan and Emily both grew up in
musical families, and started taking
piano and voice lessons at a young
age. They were members of local chtl-
drens' choirs in their respective
towns, and took part in their high
schools' music and drama•
programmes. Meghan is a graduate of
Clinton and District Christian School,
and upon commencement in October,
GDCI. She will be joining Emily at
Laurier in September, where both
girls will be studying under renowned
soprano Leslie Fagan, with the hopes
of pursuing careers in voice
performance.
The Two Sopranos will be perform-
ing at St. George's Anglican church in
Goderich on Saturday, August 13, at
7:30 pm. Invite your family and
friends to hear these girls sing a vari-
ety of solos and duets, both classical
and contemporary.
There are no tickets to buy; it's sim-
ply a free will donation at the door.
Refreshments and goodies will be
served afterward.
