around the globe.
Van Wyk says the doctor's death
came as a shock, and that people's
thoughts and prayers are with his
children, Ivan, 22, and Scarlett, 18.
"We are getting a lot of calls and
people are coming in," says Van Wyk,
noting that is why a memory box, was
placed at the Family Health Team
office.
"Everyone has their own special
memories and stories they want w
share.
Gene Logel, a Clinton Public Hos-
pital
Foundation volunteer who sat
with Raczycki on the physician
recruitment team, says it is difficult to
comprehend such a loss.
"He was such a great individual. It's
just a loss that you just can't meas-
ure," says Logel, who credits Raczycki
with being a "driving force" on the
recruitment committee.
"This is a loss for the Foundation,
the community and the hospital: says.
Logel, who says calling Raczycki a
"pillar of the community doesn't go
far enough."
Raczycki's longtime` friend, Gail
Fraser, says there will be many things
to miss about him.
"He loved his family, his practice and his music," says
Fraser, who first met the doctor 20 years ago when her
friend, his late wife Roxanne, rented a limousine for Rac-
zycki's 30th birthday.
"Jan took a liking to the limo driver who just happens to
be my husband, Larry, and we've all been friends ever
since."
'The Frasers were looking forward to a 50th birthday cel-
ebration for both Jan and Larry as they were both prepar-
ing to mark the milestone in September. Instead, the Fras-
ers are grieving the loss of a treasured friend.
Fraser says Raczycki was always very proud of his chil-
dren's accomplishments, and always an active booster of
both Clinton Public Hospital and the community.
"He loved his family. He loved his community. He loved
his music
Fraser adds Raczycki was also a whiz in the kitchen.
"He loved his cooking," she says. "He taught my husband
it was OK for a man to be in the kitchen."
Evidence of Raczycki's love of the community and the
world at large can easily be accessed on the Internet with a
name search. The web site, www.worldisround.com, car-
ries a number of the doctor's submissions including pho-
tos of his beloved adopted hometown of Clinton.
In short, the community's admiration of the doctor was
reciprocated.
"I grew up in Toronto but this place has been home :..
and I wouldn't have it any other way," said Raczycki on the
aforementioned site.
A celebration of life service, which drew more thousands
of his patients, friends and family memberswasheld at St.
Anne's Catholic Secondary School on Friday. Raczycki is
also survived by his Partner of five years, Heather Douglas,
and her three children, Samantha,.
Dylan and Kyle.

There have been numerous
complaints to Perth County
OPP regarding door-to-door
salespersons promoting hot
water heaters. Police remind
all citizens that the Consumer
Protection Act includes a right
to cancel agreements, known as
aa cooling off period". Section
35(1) allows cancellation of the
agreement any time within 10
days after the date of receiving
a written copy of the agreement
and the day all of the services
are available.
The OPP reminds everyone to
be very selective when choos-
ing to purchase services from
door-to-door salespersons.
Always check credentials and
never sign an agreement until
you are completely knowledge-
able about the vendor and
products or services being pro-
vided. "The best form of crime
prevention is consumer knowl-
edge. Know your rights and
don't be bullied by door-to-
door sales persons," adds Perth
County Inspector Steve Porter.
