Walker. "Last week it passed Tuesday and
failed Thursday. It's weird; there has been
no rain but there is bad water quality"

Walker noted that as waves stir up the bot-
tom of the lake, those clusters latch onto
:sand and other suspended solids.
"[he other reason is for the birds.
The number of geese in and around
Rotary Cove has increased. significantly.
this year. At the July 27 meeting of the
Environment Corirmittee, ways were dis-
cussed as to how to get rid of the geese.
"We've got to do something, otherwise
we're going to lose that beach, said Envi-
ranment Committee member. Cathy
Cove.
Member Cory L Wongi.:who also man-
ages the grounds at the Maitland Country
Club, noted there is very little that deters
geese. I)ogs, loud noises and even 3D
plastic coyotes may work for a week or
two, he said, but the geese get used to the
deterrents and just come back as soon as
it's done.
Goderich's other two beaches, St. Chris-
tophers and the Main beach, are faring far
better than Rotary Cove for water quality.
Even in the rainy rnonth ()flame, the Main
Beach showed only three failing test days
of eight.
The pass/fail threshold for e -coli is 100
C;FIJ per 100 ml. of water.
Meanwhile, water consumption is up,
while waste treatment is down.
Treated wateruse is up to about 8,000
cubic meters a day, however waste water
treatment is down to about 3,000 m3
daily.
The reason, according to Pollution Con-
trol Plant manager Kevin Menam, is lawn
watering.
'Tour flows are dropping and theirs are
going up," he said. "The only place that
(water) can be going is on the ground"
Marshall, council discuss
CPR cost sharing
OMI Agency
Can you boll It down to dollars?
That was the question posed to res-
taurateur. Herb Marshall by council fury
21.
Marshall was at council to talk about
his plans to tum the waterfront CPR sta-
tion into a restaurant, moving the build-
ing in the process.
However, as Marshall would onlybe
leasing the land, the issue of who pays
for what needed to be addressed before
a more formal agreement can he pre-
sented to council.
"There needs to be some discussion
between what is 100 per cent my
expenses and those that are the respon-
sibility of the town," he said. "I under-
stand how long this has been."
Topmost on the list for Marshall is
environmental and clean up costs.
"For a developer to take responsibility
for a piece of property he doesn't own
just doesn't make sense," he said.
Coun. Jim Donnelly requested a

formalized agreement from Marshall
prior to any further approval, and asked
whether something could be ready by
the next meeting.
Initial plans for the restaurant were
approved by the previous council.
A tentative date was set for Septem-
ber 15.
