Manager Susan Armstrong, fes- tival committee chair Tom Fincher and Allison Lobb, who was pegged to help plan the function earlier this year, Fincher said time and direction were fac- tors in the decision to call off the event. We were looking at taking it in two different directions," Fincher said. "[Lobb's) ideas are wonderful in terms of taking it indoors and featuring a guest speaker, but that's more inline with a holistic trade show," Armstrong added. During the April 21 meeting of the BIA Board ofM g t, chair Mike Strickland revealed that the Town of Goderich tour- ism and event department had passed on the opportunity to take the reigns of the event for the 2011 season. In June, com- munity member Allison Lobb stepped up to take the lead on the annual festival with the sup- port of Armstrong, and planned to build on the health aspect of the event with a focus on holistic health. "It's getting late on in terms of organization,* Fincher added Thursday. "Our two agendas arae slightly different. We need to make a decision to move forward on our own or cancel for this year" • Armstrong indicated through meeting with Lobb, "she would be absolutely thrilled" if the BIA decided to nix the festival in 2011. The Health and Harvest Festi- val occursn Courthiuse Park in September annually and the BIA has beaded the event for more • than five years. Along with call- ing off the event this year, the BIA passed a motion to survey ven- dors of the seasonal Farmer's Market to gauge interest in assist- • ing with the festival in 2012. the highway has more than one lane, the law requires the driver to move over and leave one lane between their vehi- cle and the parked emergency vehicle if it can be done safely. Failure to do so can result in fines from $400 to $2,000 and three demerit points for a first offence. •"Officers report that often it is older drivers who are ignorant of this law since it was enacted in 2003 after many current motorists already had their licence. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse to endanger the life of a police officer or an emergency worker," says OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis. In partnership with the media, Minis- try of Transportation of Ontario and other police services, the OPP will conduct an educational campaign to make motorists aware of their obliga- tions from July 25 to 31. From August 1 to 7, OPP officers wiltconduct a focused enforcement campaign aimed squarely at drivers who continue to violate this law. •"This is an important education and targeted enforcement campaign. Since 1989, five OPP officers have been killed doing their job on the sides of Ontario roadways and many more have been injured. Our colleagues at other police services, atnbulance and fire services have also lost friends and co-workers to these preventable roadside collisions," says Larry Beechey, OPP Deputy Com- missioner for Traffic Safety and Opera- tional Support. www.westcoastblues.ca AtikUtICII NEST C AST CIE 4ts & TASTE OF HURON CELEBRATION 411111110011011P LABIDURP_ AY ',WEEKEND DOWNTOWN • GOD WEST COAST .1i in partnership with TASTE OF HURON is thrilled to • resent The Main Event Faux Woods let the 4th FREE er you are Furnishing a New Home, ug a Renovation or even a Cottage, Widows Will Look Sizzlinat YALE ENDS SAT., AUG. 6THI • Wild T & The Spirit • Shalcura S'Aida • Johnny Max Band t4 C $ SAT., SEPT. 3... 9•Diw.
