In June, Lobb was also selected to sit
on the Standing Committee on Agricul-
ture and agri-food, something he has
applied for in the past.
After this election, I put my name
forward as I had before for the Ag Com-
mittee: he said. "Obviously with Huron -
Bruce having such a significant part of
economy and lifestyle, I was more than
fortunate."
First on the agenda in the fall is the
Canadian Wheat Board. The Conserva-
tive government has been very vocal in
its opposition to the Prairie -based grain
monopoly and while allowing it to con-
tinue, plans to allow farmers the choice
to market their own wheat.
"We made a commitment to multiple
actions and presenting legislation in the
fall to provide western grain farmers the
choice to market their wheat," he said.
Morelocally, the Growing Forward
business risk management program's
second phase will be continued through
consultation with the provinces and.
territories.
"This legislation will allow farmers
choice, he said:
Another staple in the Conservative
platform - getting rid of the long gun
registry - is set to pass this fall with the
majority government.
"It's been an issue for more than a
decade,," Lobb said. "Hunters, farmers
and sportsmen are frustrated, we know
it doesn't work. It's time to get rid of it
and reallocate the resources to fight
crimes - like handguns :and restricted
weapons."
Even as Parliament seeks input from
the public on its 2012 budget, Lobb

noted the government needs to exercise restraint
similar to that of the Canadian household.
"Families from coast to coast and in Huron
Bruce are tightening up their budgets. They expect
the same out of their federal government," he
said.
He said the feds remain committed to finding $4
billion in savings from government departments,
as well as to economic development projects
through FedDev.
