In reaching the draft site plan presented to council, Van Amersfoort noted the developer submitted five different configurations for the property. The restaurant itself will have a capacity of 72 andparking for 19 vehicles. Garbage storage will be on the north3ide of the lot, and Coun. Judy Crawford asked if that was the best place to put it. "The least acceptable item is as close as possible to the residence, she said: Developer Dan Baker noted garbage storage is mostly below ground and that smell has never been a problem. "We never had an issue with odor, he said. "But we can do some mitigating measures" Baker added that fencing will be put up at the cost of the developer. There were no public objections at the meeting, however, Coun. Jim Donnelly took issue with the number of zoning amendments council has granted since taking office, effectively compromising their own bylaws, using Rona, LCBO and the Super 8 hotel as examples. Ile added it may not be just the trash that causes problems. "The deep -fryer will be going 12 hours a day, " he said. "Somebody is going to be downwind of that" In a recorded vote, only Donnelly voted against the amendment, .•:,•. Old Post okay, but fires still rage in northwest Gerard Creces QM Agency } Sioux Lookout fire 35, which has to date consumed more than 85,600 hectares of Northern Ontario forest, is now under control but things are still on edge near the Old Post Village, said Goderich Deputy -Mayor John Grace, whose family owns and operates the fishing camp. "There has been an absolute explosion of fires around us," he said last Wednesday. "It's actually gotten worse in the northwest." Nearby Pickle Lake, which is serving as a base of operations, welcomed an influx of firefighters from the western provinces this week, including 200 from British Columbia already working on the blazes. While Grace said his camp was still open, all nearby settlements had been closed as the fire came within six kilometres. "In my 35 years of living and working in Northwestern Ontario, I've never seen it this bad," Grace said. "Our whole area was evacuated except for the camp itself." While he noted they are out of danger, Pickle Lake has not been so fortunate. The town was without hydro for a week due to burnt power lines and two days ago, the repaired lines burnt again. "Ourselves, we're out of danger entirely," brace said. "Winds would have had to come up from the east for it spread. That's not the prevailing wind.' Still, he said they are closely monitoring the fires, which are flourishing in the extreme heat. As of Thursday, July 21, more than 1,600 firefighters and support staff and 1 17 aircraft were involved in controlling the spread of fire. ThURSDAYIFRIDAYISATURDA Thurs.
