Colin first visited Nicaragua in 1998,
working with a crew from White Iron
Productions in Calgary on a documen-
tary on the rights of women. It was
always his intention to return to live
and work in the Central American
country. He moved to Halifax where he
worked with Garrison Breweries for 10
years but when an opportunity to
return to Nicaragua arose, he packed
his guitar and computer and headed
for Managua in 2007.
"Colin was going to stay there the rest
of his life and move into the country-
side," Gail said.
His employer, Garrison Breweries, a
Halifax microbrewery where Colin
worked as a graphic designer, has cre-
ated a special beer to honour him.
CONOR O'KEEFE
The office of Raymond & McLean is pleased to introduce
our new associate lawyer, Conor O'Keefe.
Conor grew up in Calgary, spending summers in Huron County
with his grandparents. He received his ILA: in Politkal Science
from the University of Calgary, Bachelor of Management with
Distinction from Lethbridge University, and his LLB. from the
University of Windsor. Before law school, Conor gained vaulable
experience working at three national full service law firms.
Articling in Windsor provided him with a broad range of exposure
to law. Conor was called to the Ontario Bar in June 2011. He and
his wife, Chrissy, have moved to Exeter, where WP wish them
many happy, successful years. Kim and Angela Mclean and the
office staff welcome Conor to Raymond & Mclean.
Colin Ailin, formerly of Goderich, was shot and killed in Nicaragua as he watched the Stanley Cup final on his
computer in a cafe.
Company founder Brian.: Titus
has created a limited edition Bel-
gian IPA and $1 from the sale of
each. bottle will go towards the
Ost of bringing Colin's body
home.
"We loved the .guy," Titus told
CIC. "He added a whole differ-
ent perspective. If I thought of
something, he could take it to
the next level."
With the uncanny ability to
move easily among different cul-
tures and people, Colin attracted
genuine and true friends, people of
a similar spirit and nature. Jamie
Demericas, who was a friend of
Colin's in Managua since 2007
characterized his friend in an emo-
donal.email to the Allins.
"Your son was a great person
and man! He spoke of his youth
in Calgary; your current resi-
dence in Ontario; and his
brother and nephews in Russia.
Colin always made it a point
and source of pride to represent
Canada with honor and respect.
He was proud to be one of the
few Canadiansin Nicaragua.
"He and I would watch NHL
hockey on his projector in his
apartment; drinka few beers;
remember his rock-and-roll
band (Skin Barn- which once
opened a Nirvana concert) and
truly enjoyed life. Your son
made a lasting impression on
everyone he encountered.
"Colin will forever be a :posi-
tive memory for me and will
forever be positively repre-
sented via his design of my cor-
porate logo. His positive influ-
ence via his graphic designs are
recognized throughout the
world and throughout the state
of Texas for which t represent,
the email read.
For the Allins, it is all Just a ter-
rible nightmare that has no
ending.
But Colin lived his life his way
and as Ron said," We taught them
to he independent and free
spirited"
And so he was.
