Residents in the Warren
Street area are expressing
their concerns about the tem-
porary dog park becoming a
permanent neighbourhood
fixture.
At the June 27 meeting of
Goderich Town Council,
Parks Superintendent Martin
Quinn said a large percentage
of park users want to see a
permanent fix, and that fenc-
ing companies are "chomping
at the bit," to begin work.
There is $6,000 set aside in the
2011 budget for improve-
ments to the dog park.
However, there needs to be
appropriate development and
parking
for the park. he noted,
saying ten spaces on a gravel
lot would suffiice.
There is a road allowance
running through the area
occupied by the park,
however, it could be realigned
in order to set up the perma-
nent park.
Coun. Michele Hansen
pointed out the dog park has
been on the docket under
Other Business for too long,
and the time has come for a
decision.
"We need to make a deci-
sion," she said.
Council did receive two let-
ters from concerned resi-
dents, however, hoping the
park itself could be moved
further south or to the indus-
trial park if made permanent
Barking, .appearance and
proximity to residential areas
were the main concerns.
Hansen led a motion to.
begin defining the area of the
permanent park and realign
the road - an extension. of
Warren Street - to .fit.
