drafted by Avalanche
Garrett Meurs of Ripley and team member
for the Ontario Hockey League's Plymouth
Whalers was selected 123rd overall in the fifth
round by the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL
Entry Draft this past weekend.
He said there were a few nerves, but was
happy at being drafted into the pros.
"Getting drafted to any team is an honour
and to be selected is very exciting. Going into
the draft 1 was very nervous as to what would
happen and am happy that things went well,"
said Meurs. "I'm looking forward to the next
step now and hopefully someday playing for
the Avalanche. 1 would like to thank family
and friends for the support l have received to
help make this dream a possibility."

On Monday, July 4, three golfers tied with a
score of 32 for first low net. They were Duncan
MacPherson, lack Kellough and Bill Tldeswell.
First low gross went to Arthur Hooff, Dave
Meriam Ray Bedard and Tom Smith with a
score of 35. Closest to the pin on #1 was Andy
Ujiye. Other winners of the evening were Lane
Greer, Tom Fincher, John Archbold and Andy
Ujiye.
Thursday, July 5, Men's Senior League saw
61 players take to the course. The low net win-
ners were: Flight.A • Bill Brown, B - Percy Gar-
rick, C - Doug Mikitish, D - Skip Ravergne and
Dave Bender, E - Kevin Rumig, F - Paul Blair
and Dave Brewster, G - Gord Jamieson and
Ken Tomlinson. Closest to the pin was Skip
Lavergne.
Tuesday Night Ladies' League, Joanne
Turner came In with fewest putts. First flight,
low gross, Denese McCabe, low net Val Craw-
ford; Second flight, low gross, Karin McVittie,
low net, Velma Haylow; Third flight, low gross,
Sandy Fielder, low net, Nancy Suchard; Fourth
flight, low net, Martha Archbold, low net
Thora McPherson.
Thursday Morning Ladies' League, Fewest
putts went to Wendy Harvey, Second flight,
low gross, Velma Haylow; Third flight low
gross, Nancy Suchard, low net, Mary Ellen jas-
per; Fourth flight; low gross, Thora McPher-
son, low net MarthaArchbold.
We are seeing lots of young people golfing
as their lessons finished this week and their
golfing will start next Wednesday, give them
lots of encouragement - we have some really
good Junior golfers.
