There's no better way to end the day than to witness a glorious
sunset gently slipping into Lake Huron with the skied of the bagpipes
in the background. The Goderich Celtic Blue Highlanders Pipe Band
kicked off its weekly tradition of Piping Down the Sun last Friday
evening to a large and enthusiastic crowd at Rotary Cove. Even the
weather co-operated with a spectacular sunset. Some spectators,
Ike three year-old Madden locco of Barrie were not only dressed for
the occasion but entertained with some fancy dance moves

Port to Point group
seeking green
transportation plan
The Port to Point trail group
is looking to reach the next
stage in connecting the Port of
Goderich to Point Farms Pro-
vincial Park,, and needs a green
plan to get started.
Port to Point representative
Kent Gillen was before Council
June 27, asking the municipali-
ty's support as they seek pro-
vincial assent.
Gillen noted that to get Min-
istry of Transportation
approval, the P to P must fit in
to a Green Transport Plan, and
asked the town to consider
adopting one.
We want to see more from
you, he said to council. "Being
on the leading edge of greening
the community?
Examples would be desig-
nated walking areas, and paint-
ing cycle lane lines on
roadways.
The trouble with the Minis-
try, he said, is that it's their
mandate to work on highways,
not trails. As part of a Green
Transport Plan, he said, the trail
would be one aspect of an all-
encompassing approach to
environmentally -friendly trans-
portation. He .said he doesn't
believe any MTO funding
would come through unless P
to P was a pilot project.
All new highways in the prov-
ince are built with a 30 -inch
apron, however, last year's
improvements to Hwy. 21 were
done before the legislation was

Gillen said drainage has been
the largest challenge, and the P
to P group has been talking to
landowners along the stretch
where the trail is intended.
The group is looking toward
a 2012-2013 timeline for fund-
ing and construction, seeking
assistance from both the Town
of Goderich and the Township
of Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh.
The item has been referred to
the Environment Committee.
