opments on both sides of High-
way 21 south of Goderich, be
undertaken jointly by the MCVA,
Goderich and Central .Huron, all
of whom have an interest in find-
ing a watershed solution to the
very serious lake gully problems
exacerbated by the current piece-
meal approach to the problem:
At the end of the day, everyone
trying a short term solution will
end up paying twice.
1 am getting the sense that the
major players are NOT willing to
take the lead. The solution, there-
fore, will be left to individuals or
developers to take action under
the Drainage Act,- and it will take
a courageous private land owner
to undertake such action,risking
the anger of neighbours, accord-
ing to comments of certain
municipal officials (according to
one a affected landowner.)
Given the upcoming re -con-
struction of Highway 21 south,
between Goderich aid Bayfield,
(in company with a growing list
of residential, commercial &
industrial projects in,the
Goderich/Central Huron proper-
ties north of Black's. Point Road to
Goderich town limits), it would
seem that MTO and Ontario
would want to be seen as good
stewards of the watersheds
affected and would want to
ensure that the new construction
Walk the talk for kids with apraxia
Dear Editor,
Imaginea boy who could
understand the words around hint
and knew what he wanted to say
but couldn't communicate with
anyone. Imagine a girl in tears
when she can't say the words she
needs. Imagine any child having
trouble :understanding and
expressing their thoughts. For
children with Apraxia of Speech or
another Language Disorder, this is
everyday reality. My son Noah has

wonder if a broad, watershed by

mandated, just as it should be for

Could MTC). be persuaded to
act?
I would hope that some
politician, or some official some-
where, would be able to demon-
strate the vision, the leadership,
and the plain common sense to
act in a global fashion to address
the problem. I have been told that
1 am a dreamer; that this is nonan
ideal world; and it will not be
possible for the various partners
to sit down and resolve this
challenge before it is much too
late and costs far more money.
The responsibility for the

resolution of this problem should
not rest with an individual.
A proactive and coopera-
tive approach might just resolve
the unending conflict that cou-
ples each development applica
tion, might answer the horren-
dous erosion problems in places
like Bluewater Beach; could
-reduce the massive inflows of
phosphorus running into Lake
Huron and polluting its beaches;
and address the surface water,
drainage and stormwater prob-
lems in a definitive, cost-efficient
manner that simultaneously
eliminates liability problems for
municipalities and taxpayers at a
future date when litigation is ulti-
mately .used to solve the problem

Apraxia is a motor speech disor-

iffi-culty executing and sequencing
the skilled motor movements
needed for intelligible speech. It
occurs in one to ten children per

Disorder is a communication dis-
order causing problemsin under-
standing and expressing language
affecting five percent of children.
According to the Toronto
Speech & Stuttering Institute, one
in ten Canadian children have
speech and/or language difficul-
ties. We need more public aware-
ness in our communities, prov-
ince and nation regarding the.
impact of all speech and language
disorders on our children. That is
why, in 2010,1 organized the first
