Gracin was one of sev- en 'students' cast in the hands-on learning program that hit the air Nov. 2. Local entrepreneurs L. Michael Rob- erts and Paul Safr went to battle in the name of green energy last week as they entered the Dragons' Den. The inventive pair travelled the nearly 300 kilometres to Toronto on Monday, June 1 where they pitched their conceptual product, a high -efficiency 24-hour lightbulb, before a panel of Canadian business moguls on the CBC's idea maker -or -breaker pro- gram, Dragons' Den. Three decades after the Khmer Rouge turned Cambodia upside down in a frenzy of bloodletting, a UN -backed war crimes tribunal is at last underway to bring the faction's surviving leaders to justice. Thousands of Cambodians worldwide, however, seek a different kind of closure. They want to find or account for loved ones who vanished during those dark years from 1975-79, during which the Khmer Rouge killed, tortured, starved, or worked -to -death somewhere between one and two million people. Former Goderich resident Y Dang Troeung and her family have recently unravelled their own mys- tery - what happened to her uncle, Ch- eung Kok See, who vanished after being lured back to Cambodia from his studies in Moscow. Troeung debuted her 15 -minute docu- mentary on the CBC Radio One's Out - front series. Her piece, The Lucky One Returns, told . the story of her family's escape from a tortured nation, and her • return to find answers. The documentary originally aired in May, and broadcast again Aug. 14 on the CBC One network. The year's bill worked out to about $19,000 in mid- day chow, and a motion was cast May 19 to do away with the menu during the thrice -monthly committee -of -the -whole and council sessions. An 11-8 recorded vote at county council June 3 confirmed council will have a lunch break, but their bill won't be picked up by taxpayers. Black Bear roaming lone male bear spent a chunk of 2009's summer season patrol- ing the Lake Huron shoreline. Wildlife officials fielded 30 reported sightings of the animal since June 1, reported to be a two or three-year-old male Black Bear. After hearing from a seasonal resident who won't be return- ing to her Huron Sands cottage until the bear problem was remedied, Huron County councillors decided Aug. 5 they'd send a letter to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Huron -Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell supporting the letter -writer's concerns about bears on cottagers' decks and breaking into sheds. Senior Fish and Wildlife specialist, Bev Stevenson of the MNR Clinton office said in the July 15 GSS they had received word of seven ad- ditional Black Bear sightings in the area. Reported sightings stretch from the Sun- set Beach Road area up to Kingsbridge. ECRA/ESA #7001094 Master Licence #6001650 • Residential • Commercial • LARGE OR MALL, WE DO IT ALL! P.O.
