A familiar face at Goderich's Maitland
Medical Centre is being recognized for his
ingenuity and initiative at opening, maintain-
ing, and increasing business at his pharmacy
in Bayfield.
Michael Ibrahim was recently recognized
through the Commitment to Care and Service
Awards, and received the Rookie of the Year
award for his work at his pharmacy; Michael's
Phaimasave on Highway 21 in Bayfield.
. Ibrahim, who is no stranger to Huron Coun-
ty, used to nun the pharmacy out of Zellers, but
moved out to bring service and support to the
forefront of his business. In July of 2007, he
opened the doors of his store in Bayfield, and
the growth hasn't stopped.
"We had a great first year," Ibrahim ex-
plained. "And then we just grew on that, we
had 28 per cent growth in our second year."
Ibrahim's growth has been due to his com-
mitment, and sticking to the core needs of his
customers.
"I think people appreciate the fact that we
focus on meeting, if not exceeding patient's
expectations," he said. "and that is what peo-
ple are when they walk in here, patients, not
customers."
Ibrahim's award is sponsored by the Cana-
dian Association for Chain Drug Stores, and
is presented to a business that is less than two
years old with sufficient evidence of success.
The award also requires community feed-
back, according to Ibrahim, and the feedback
that the pollers received floored hint
"The award is about commitment to care
and service," he said. "We were nominated in

July, by Pharmasave's regional representative,
and then people in the community are con-
tacted by the group responsible for the award,
and people from Bayfield and Goderich just
didn't have anything bad to say about the ser-
vice here."
Ibrahim thanks his customers for their feed-
back, as well as his family for the tireless hours
they put in making the shop what it is.
"It's definitely a family effort, keeping the
store going as it has," he said.
Ibrahim also works for the Huron Family
Health Centre in Seaforth.

Amazing things keep coming out of Kul -
pepper's, a cooking and kitchen shop on The
Square.
The most recent is an acknowledgement on
the national level.
The store, and owner Steve Rock, were re-
cently featured in Homestyle Magazine's De-
cember 2009 edition for the unique shopping
opportunity they offer.
"I received a call in August from Home -
style; one of their writers was in on their
summer holidays, and they wondered if they
could write a story" Rock said "She never
mentioned she was a writer, but I guess we
made an impression."
Rock said the attention the article has gen-
erated has been absolutely overwhelming.
"I've been getting calls from all over about
the story; both readers and suppliers that have
seen it," he said. "And it's great. It brings at-
tention
ttention to me and the store, but also to Goder-
ich's downtown, and The Square."
Rock recently moved the store to The
Square. With the new storefront, he has been
able to open more space, and provide room

for more suppliers.
"We expanded our inventory and products
when we moved," he said. "We now have up
to 70 suppliers."
No product better exemplifies this than the
bot sauces available at the store, according to
Rock.
"We started with two hot sauces, and peo-
ple kept requesting more, and different ones.
We're now up to 40 or 50," he said.
Rock says the success of the store is due to
the effort that he puts in matching customers
with their needs.
"I do everything I can to find what people
are looking for, and they appreciate that," he
said.
Highest of the accolades the article listed
was the growth in business that Kulpepper's
has experienced; stating first and foremost
that the store posted record-setting profit .in-
creases of 140 per cent last year. The article
also praises the selection and local -flavours
that are represented at the store.
Rock was flattered by the choice the writer
made to feature his store.
"The writers may not want to write stories
about every store they go into, so I see this as
a great compliment."
Kulpeppers is located at 168 Courthouse
Square, and sells kitchen utensils, coffee, tea,
hot drinks, seasoning, flavours, and many ap-
pliances, as well as special -order items.
