Huron -Perth Championship over
Stratford April 12.
The 5-4 overtime win caps off
a season that saw three of Goder-
ich's ringette teams take Huron -
Perth championships.
NOVICE RINGETTE
Goderich's Novice Ringette team defeated
Mitchell in their championships in Hensall
April 5. The young squad celebrated their
victory in style atop the fine truck.
TWEEN RINGETTE
The Tkveen team capped off an amazing
season with a Huron -Perth title win over
Mitchell as well.
The Goderich Tweens also took gold in
a March tournament in Niagara Falls. The
Tweens had an impressive season of 30-6-4,
due in large part to their sportsmanship and
conduct.
PETrrE RINGETTE
Goderich Ringette hosted their annual tour-
nament October 23-25, and produced some
big hometown wins.
The U12 Petites took gold, with a 6-2 win
over Richmond Hill while the Belles lost 7-6
in overtime against Seaforth.
The Petites also went four wins straight to
take the annual Mitchell Ringette Tournament
ATOM SAILORETTES
The ` Mcgeemotors.ca Atom Sailorettes
made the leap from_ hockey to `BB' in
January, and achieved the fast undefeated
season for Goderich in 30 years.
After winning five tournaments and two
Silver Sticks, the Sailorettes emerged unde-
feated
nduefeated as the top `BB' team in the province.
Well done!
Already this year, the girls made the jump
to 'A' level hockey and on Thanksgiving
weekend, went undefeated in their Cobourg
tournament beating Whitby 4-0 in the final.
MIDGET REPS •
The Midget Sailors played hard throughout
the WOAA playoffs this year, emerging as
champions. After giving up the first game of
a game series against Walkerton in the
final, the Midgets battled back for the WOAA
championship.
At the Scott Easton Major -Midget Memo-
rial Tournament in Gananoque forward Coy
Kulich won the top forward skating skills
competition and Josh Martel took third in the
fastest -skating competition. Shawn Gethke
was tournament MVP.
PEEWEE REP
The Goderich Kinsmen Peewee AE Sailors
enjoyed a ride around town on the fire truck
after a gutsy and win -filled play-
off stint.
The peewees swept each of
their playoff rivals two games
straight to capture the WOAA
championship title.
PEEWEE SAILORETTES
The Peewee Sailorettes earned bronze in
their Ontario Women's Hockey Association
(OWHA) playoffs this spring, scoring three
empty -netters against the Manitoulin Ice An-
gels.
BANTAM SAILORETTES
The Goderich Bantam Sailorettes took
silver in their home tournament March 5-8,
taking down Kincardine, Keady and Saugeen
Shores.
MIDGET SAILORETTES
The Midget Sailorettes had a second place
finish at the Saugeen Shores Silverstick.
NOVICE SAILORS
In January hockey action, the Novice Rep
Sailors rose to glory in the Lucknow Lions
Novice Tournament. The Novice team took
gold after a 6-1 come -from -behind win over
Drayton. The Sailors also defeated Owen
Sound 9-0 and Embro 5-0 en route.
BFT J .E RINGETTE
The Goderich Belle Ringette team took the
Nov. 29, 7-0 against the home team.
The Juniors are also fresh off a silver medal
performance, also from the Mitchell tourna-
ment.
The Goderich Petites Ringette team took
gold at a Richmond Hill tournament in Feb-
ruary after an overturned decision that saw
them first take silver. •
An after -the -buzzer goal was counted
against the Petites, in overtime, however the
overturned decision saw Goderich take gold.
YCW GODERICH
The Goderich Lions Peewee team celebrat-
ed their `B' division consolation win as part
of the 60th Young Canada Week - a feat also
accomplished by their Local League counter-
parts.
Elsewhere, the Sailorettes made it to the
consolation final, but were ousted by Blyth/
Brussels.
Young Canada Week turned 60 -years -old
in 2009, and in addition to the usual caval-
cade of dignitaries and well-wishers, some
extra special guests were on -hand for the
opening night.
Twenty-six players from the original Young
Canada Week teams gathered some 60 years
later on Goderich ice to officially open the
tournament.
