Tuesday, May 9th, saw the passing
away of an old resident of Kinloss, in
the person of Mrs. John Beaton, who
died at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
McInnis, Havelock street, Lucknow.
Mrs. Beaton and her late husband were
for many years residents of the 4th con ,
Kinloss, but 12 years ago moved to the
residence until lately occupied by them
about a mile north of Lucknow. Mrs.
Beaton's maiden name was Dolly Mac-
kenzie. She was born in Zora, Oxford
County, 75 years ago, and came with
the family to Kincaruine when quite
young. At the age of 16 she was mar-
ried to the late Mr, Beaton, and settled
on the farm on the 4th con. of Kinloss.
Of twelve children born to Mr. and
Mrs. Beaton, nine survive, and there are
thirty-two grandchildren and four great -
grand children. The late Mrs,' Beaton
was a faithful and conaistent member
of South Kinloss Presbyterian church.
Surviving members of the family are:
'Eric and George, of Calumet, Mich.;
Sam, of Superior; John and Neil, in the
West; Mrs. McSwain, of Toronto; Mrs,
Agnew, of Listowel, and Mrs. McInnis,
Lucknow,

H. Follett,G. T, R, agent, who has
been in Relgrave for the last couple of
years, has taken the agency in Kippen,
succeeding the late W. H. Reynolds,
who died recently.

Much sympathy is extended to Mrs,
Tno. Marshall and family in the sudden
death of her husband, who died on
Wednesday evening, May 10th, in the
Guelph Hospital, after going through
an operation Deceased was in bis 51st
year and was a member of the L 0. L.
He is survived by a widow, 2 daughter,,
5 sons:-.-M-s. Wm. Abram, Belmore;
Margaret, '1 oronto; 1=tes. Wesley and
George; and Emmanuel, Saresel and
David at home.
BLUBVALE.
The Bluevale Women's Institute held
their annual meeting last week at the
home of Mrs. George McDonald. The
Secretary reported that during the
year the Society had raised for Red
Cross purposes the sum of $608.00, and
bad made and forwarded to the Red
Cross Society the following supplies: --
355 shirts, 140 surgical shirts, 200 sults
pyjamas, 187 pairs socks, 4 invalid
jackets, 82 towels, 75 bandages, a large
quantity of dressing, 92. jars of fruit
and $25.00 in cash. The following
officers were elected for the ensuing
year:—President, Mrs. Ed. Johnston;
Vice Pres., Mrs. P. D. King; Sec.
Treas., Mrs. Tate; Assistant Sec., Miss
S. Collie; Press Sec., Mrs. J. Brecken-
ridge; Branch Directors, Mrs, Black,
Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Allison; District
Director, Mrs. W. H. Fraser; Auditors,
Miss M. Collie and Mrs. McDonald.
The members of the Institute wish
to thank all the women of the com-
munity who gave so generously their
time and work in sewing and knitting
for the Red Cross supplies.

harness business of W. H. Wilson and
have moved the same into their store
where they will carry on the trade in
connection with their shoes.
Wednesday evening of last week J.
F. and Mrs. Rowland were presented
with a gold watch and a Life Member-
ship Certificate and pin in the Red Cross
Association, respectively, by the citizens
of Brussels on the eve of their depar-
ture to Tilsonburg. Presentation was
made in the Public Library audience
room.
Dr. Ed. Bryans, who has been en-
gaged in practice at Sydney, Man., was
here for a short visit at the parental
home, Queen street, while enroute to
Halifax, The Dr. bas joined the Royal
Canadian Medical Corps and is destined
for overseas service.
G. H. Semis has been appointed
successor to J. F. Rowland as local
manager of the Standard Bank. The
former is no stranger to Brussels as he
was teller here for over a year a few
years ago. He has been in charge of
branches at Grafton, Claremont and
has done well.
Harold A. and Mrs. Richards, of the
Dominion Bank staff, of Winnipeg, are
visitors at the former's parental home
here.
Lorne Eckmier left town this week
for Flint, Mich, where be goes to join a
male quartette as first tenor. Mrs. Eck-
mier will follow shortly. Before leaving
Mr. Eckmier was presented with a gold
signet ring and Mrs. Eckmer with a
cut glass water service by a number of
their friends. The former was also
presented with a gold headed cane by
the congregation of Melville church.

may be discovered daily by the thinking
housewife.

on face, little white on one hind leg and

Charles and Samuel Elliott, trading as
Elliott Bros, brick and tile manufactur-
ers has been disolved. All accounts due
the late firm nre payable to the under-
signed and all claims against the firm

the provincial Legislature with an

defeat in his constituency, Jacques
Cartier, as a resnit of the Quebec elec-
