At present, the CT Scanner is scheduled to be arrive at the end of February, at which point work to ready the digi- tal imaging equipment for use will begin. In all, staff say they hope to have the scanner operational at the beginning of April. The roof is up and the rest is coming along, said CT Scanner and Diagnostic Im- aging Implementation Team leader, Rick Bedard. He's been overseeing the project at the hospital's end since it broke ground this year. Currently, drywall, electri- cal, plumbing and mechani- cal work is set in overdrive inside the building. Outside, asphalting has been complet- ed atop Montcalm Street. The big thing, says Bedard, is the current plans for a nec- essary upgrade and change in the hospital's master electri- cal switch. "That's a huge change- over," he said, adding it's one they're well prepared for. Though a major upgrade to the master switch could see the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital (AMGH) running off of emergency power for anywhere from a few hours to a few days, Photo by Dominique Milburn A view looking east from Montcalm Street reveals construction progress on the Digital Imaging suite at AMGH. In 2010, the hospital expects to receive Huron County's first CT Scanner. Bedard says the process shouldn't cause any major hitches in operations. While some areas of the facility are deemed uncritical and therefore not powered by the emergency generator, like some offices and store- rooms, the main units and services will be up and run- ning throughout the job. AMGH tested its emer- gency power operations this summer when the facility ran on its generator for close to four hours. That, Bedard said, went well. "It went very smoothly," he said. Bedard adds the hospi- tal could in theory be run "in- DERiCH Canada's prettiest town Please be advised of the following dates for the 2010 Police Services Board meetings of the Goderich Police Services Board. 2010 Meeting dates January 19th March 9th April 13th June 15th September 14h October 19th November 9th December 14h Meeting dates may be subject to change, please contact Town Hall at 519-524-8344 to confirm meetings of the Goderich Police Services Board Larry J. Exactly when the electrical changeover is going to take place has yet to be deter- mined and is pending some arrival dates of equipment. Bedard said AMGH is working with its team of electrical and equipment pro- fessionals to schedule the work. The facility is looking at up to two weeks of commis- sioning after the arrival of the new equipment, another one to two weeks of applica- tions training and set-up. Af- ter that, Bedard says the new imaging suites should be live and ready for operations "bar- ring any unforeseen issues." "It's reasonable to guess that we'll be live with our medical imaging equipment in early April," Bedard said, though he added the timeline is tentative. "We're moving along steadily and working through issues as they arise," he said.
