ed their 50th wedding anniversary at
the Legion vets night, and Branch
President June Pyette took a moment
on Dec. 18 to read from letters written

"I'm thrilled to see so many of our veterans, soldiers,
familyand friends," Royal Canadian Legion Branch
109 president June Pyette called out to a full house
on December 18.
The Branch at the corner of Kingston and Stanley
streets was filled to the brim Friday as the Legion
celebrated its third annual Veterans Old and New
evening celebration.
"We're here to say thanks to all of our veterans
past and present," Pyette's voice echoed through the
speakers, "because they all work for our wonderful
country and this Brancliwants to make sure all of our
veterans are honoured."
Veterans, Pyette pointed out, encompass each
individual who has served their country through
Canadian Forces, both in the past along with those
who are actively on guard. The Branch crowd was
peppered with veterans and families donning a bright
red, along with the crisp green uniforms of young
men and women home for the holidays. .
Among them sat Gerry Bell, a soldier and
paratrooper veteran of the Korean War. Along with
celebrating both his country and community, Bell
had another accomplishment to boast. Beside him sat
Addie, his loving wife. The couple was celebrating
50 years of wedded bliss.
"I'm a 52 -year member of the Legion," said Bell,
"we've been married for 50, and I quit smoking when
they were 20 cents a pack."
Along with entertainment courtesy of the Freeman
Brothers, with Legion staple Audrey Kerr tickling the
ivories; the Legion also hosted a Mega Meat Draw
between a light lunch laid out by the Legion Ladies'
Auxiliary.
At the holiday, our thoughts turn to those who
made our progress possible. Thank You and Best Wishes for
a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from everyone at
The New Goderich Honda.
