Dick and Jim Peever, owners of the Maitland Valley Marina and Trailer Park off North Harbour Road in Goderich and Mitchell's Bay Marina south of Wallace - burg, were awarded Gold Designations for their two marina and trailer park op- erations for meeting and exceeding as- sociation standards for environmental practices. "This is the first year for the Gold Des- ignation and it is one step above the Five Star rating that was previously used as criteria in the business," Peever said. "It acknowledges improvements in environ- mental practices that meet and exceed standards set by the association." At the annual convention, Peever was also elected President of the Ontario Marine Operators Association for a two- year term, and will preside over an or- ganization that represents 450 members across Ontario, including marine and dry land operations as well as many lakefront municipalities. The association's Clean Marine Pro- gram is one of the best, Peever said, and brings forward ways to improve and help operations be less intrusive on the envi- ronment through industry best practices. The OMOA will continue to review and improve the situation he said. The Maitland Valley Marina features 110 trailer sites and 160 slips while the Mitchell's Bay facility on Lake St. Clair has 250 slips and 150 trailer sites.
