back on Goderich court
With their six-week basketball
skills camp completed, the Goder-
ich Thunder basketball team saw its
first game action November 29 play-
ing host to the St. Thomas Shock at
GDCI.
In the first quarter, the Thunder
started slowly, working out some
nervous energy. The team settled
down led by. Riley O'keefe, John
Doherty, Mitch Clarke, and Connor
Cox.
In the second quarter, Harrison
Lobb, Jonathan Ridsdale, Ethan
Milne, and James Tigert provided
their team with plenty of hustle
and energy. The Shock went on a
10 -point run to take a 23-13 lead
into the break.
The home side kept battling in
the third quarter with strong efforts
from Mitch Depatie, Brendan Bau-
man, and Tyler Moss.
The Thunder twin towers of Mi-
chael McGee and Robbie Franken
did an excellent afternoon of con-
trolling rebounds against a very
skilled St. Thomas team.
Franken led the Thunder scor-
ing with 10 points. In the end, the
Shock jolted the Thunder 52-23 in
what was a very entertaining youth
basketball game.
Midget Sailorettes
undefeated in six
The Midget Sailorettes edged out Up-
per Maitland four goals to three in the
Memorial Arena this past week.
Kristin McColl (pened the God-
erich scoring with an assist from Ra-
chel Sowerby. Moments later Shayla
Mathers fired a good net stretcher into
the Upper Maitland net on a pass from
Kelsa Curran.
In the second period, Taylor Pritchard
and Michelle Kelly abetted Mathers'
second goal. Emily Gordon earned the
game winning goal late in the third pe-
riod. Kelly and goaltender Jessica Yates
are credited with the assists.
In Lucknow on Sunday night, the
Sailorettes battled to a 1-1 tie. In a
closely fought match, Kristin McColl
scored the only Goderich goal.
Excellent defensive work by Jaden
Mitchell and Jacqueline Martin were
able to shut down the aggressive Luc -
know offensive lines.
Despite the tie, the Midget Sailor-
ettes have been undefeated in six regu-
lar season games.
