Goderich Sailors' goalie, Shawn Gethke makes a diving save against the first -place Walkerton Hawks'
offence Friday night at the Maitland Recreation Centre. The Sailors play host to the Mitchell Hawks this
Friday, December 18, at the MRC. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
Hawks swoop on Sailors in 7-1 upset

The Sailors got their heads
handed to them in their own
barn over the weekend with a
7-1 loss to the first -place Walk-
erton Hawks Dec. 11.
The Sailors started the game
with a strong first period, giving
up only one power play goal to
the Hawks. However, that would
prove to be the first of many.
The second period saw a dif-
ferent Sailors team take to the
ice, allowing Walkerton to con-
trol the puck and the game. The
Hawks rolled their first marker
into a scoring rally, with another
goal just past three minutes in
the second period, putting the
Hawks up 2-0. The visitors then
extended their rally with five
more goals all the way through
to about the half -way point of
the third, nearly giving them a
7-0 shut -out against the home-
town Sailors.
Goderich rallied late in the
game, with Brett McGuiness
scoring a goal assisted by Jamie
Miller with less than a minute
left in the third. Unfortunately,
it was too little, too late.
Goderich's next game has
them facing off against the other
Hawks in the league; Mitchell at
8:30 p.m. on Friday, December
18 at the Maitland Recreation
Centre. In previous matches,
Goderich has lost 9-0 and 2-1 to
the Mitchell Hawks.
The team will then have 12
days off before a Dec. 30 en-
gagement against Hanover in
Durham.
