It's a tough job, but

The Goderich Pirates have a rough
weekend ahead of them, with games
against first -seeded Tavistock, and
Milverton, who is just ahead of them in
the league. But the real challenge will
be coping with the loss of head coach
Graham Hamilton.
Hamilton stepped down as head coach
of the Pirates, effective immediately,
according to Pirates general manager
Trevor Bazinet.
"[Hamilton] felt it was best for the
team and himself to part ways," Bazi-
net said. "He's starting a new job and
he doesn't know how much he can com-
mit to the team right now, and he wants
to commit 100 per cent."
The Pirates will have Bazinet as their
interim coach during their two matches
this weekend, but that will be followed
by a three-week mid-season break that
will end with a game on January 8, dur-
ing which Bazinet will be looking for
possible candidates to coach.
"I will be accepting anyone interest-
ed in the job," Bazinet said. "But we're
obviously looking for someone with
coaching experience."
Bazinet and the Pirates' club thank
Hamilton for his two -and -a -half years
with the team, and Bazinet explained
that there is a lot more to it than stand -

"He's had a lot of busy nights, includ- team and putting lines together," he
ing when we're not playing. He's busy said.
Bazinet also said that Hamilton would
be sadly missed by everyone in the or-
ganization, and that they wish him the
best in the future.
Over the weekend, the Pirates
dropped an away game against Clinton
4-1 on Friday, and a home game against
Monkton, 4-2 on Saturday.
"Our match against Clinton was pret-
ty even, we entered the third with them
leading 1-0," Bazinet said.
In the third, Clinton scored two
quick goals, creating an imposing 3-0
lead, but Goderich fought back, with
Matt MacPhee scoring a short-handed
goal, assisted by Scott Jamieson and
James Gartshore. Unfortunately, the
rally ended there, as Clinton put in an
empty-netter late in the period to seal
the 4-0 game.
Goderich's home -snatch against
Monkton Saturday evening saw the
Pirates start strong, with a powerplay
goal scored by MacPhee, assisted by
Mike Gillen and Dave Little.
Monkton answered with two goals of
their own in the first, a third in the sec-
ond, and a fourth on the powerplay ear-
ly in the third. Goderich rallied late in
the game again, with a goal scored by
Dillon Stokes, assisted by Kyle Hamil-
ton, but it was unfortunately, too -little -
too -late to mount a comeback from the
4-2 final.
