GDCI Can Drive looks to to last year Donny Scott signal -star staff Goderich District Collegiate Institute wants to see your cans on Tuesday, December 8. Students from GDCI will be going door-to-door in the Goderich area collecting donations for the GDCI Christmas Food Drive, which will be donated to the Huron County Christmas Bureau. Jessica Adams, student body representative, ex- plained the school, along with partners The Goderich Suncoast Mall and the Bank of Nova Scotia, will be gathering food for the Christmas Bureau, and outlined what is needed. "We need items like canned foods, dry pastas, cereal, anything that has a long shelf - life," she said. "And if you're not going to be home that day, we ask that you leave your non-pereshible food items on your front step." Adams added that, if residents aren't com- fortable leaving the food on their front porch, they can always drop it off at the school. Students will be circulating through God- erich, Saltford and the VLA to try and get food to the Huron County Christmas Bureau right before their busy time. Last year saw the students bring in six pick-up trucks full of food, and Adams says they're hoping for more this year. • "We've got 180 students, split up into 27 teams, and the real goal here is to raise awareness," she said. "There are people in Huron who need help, even if you don't see them." The main focu's of the drive is to help feed those families who may need some help during the holiday season. Adams said that there are some unaccept- able items, including homemade preserves, cleaning products, and anything that has been opened.. "We know that the bureau also gives out baskets with toys in them, so if people want to leave toys, we ask that they be unopened, in their original packag- ing," she said. Those interested in supporting need only answer the door when the students come knocking, or, a cash donation can be made through the Huron -Perth Chil- dren's Aid Society by calling 519-524-7356 ext. 3270, or 1-800-265-5198 ext. 3270. utral= by GEI JERAC Genera( automatic standby generator returns y home to full power within seconds, 24/7, even wh.. ou're not home.
