Goderich rallies behind music teachers Donny Scott signal -star staff For years, Kim and Laurie Ladd have been changing lives in Goderich and area, teaching piano and guitar and giving the gift of music to many. On Sunday, November 22, the lives they touched came together to give back both musically and financially, with a benefit coffee house for the couple. The self-employed musicians were hit by a drunk driv- er in late August, taking away their ability to not only play music, but to earn a living. At the Livery Sunday, former students and friends of the Ladds came out to show what they were capable of, be it through song, donation or fellowship, which was amazing according to friend and coordinator Gwen Rich- ardson. "We believe we had over 200 people come in," she said. "And I knew based on what was donated and how many people were involved that we could make $2,000-$3,000, and I had an outside hope we might bring in $5,000. "However, the final count from the auctions and gift sales was $7,000." Richardson added there were many private donations and gifts given to the Ladds during Sunday's concert - al- lowing them some comfort and support as they take time to heal from their injuries. The showcase, which had many former students take the stage, showed the breadth and quality of the talent fostered by the Ladds in Goderich. "A lot of people really came to realize that we have a very talented community," Richardson said. "I sought out many of the people that graced the stage, but a lot more approached me and asked if they could lend their abilities to the cause." The Ladds said they couldn't believe how many people came, and the level of generosity the community dis- played. Richardson said the response was tremendous, given the event was put together in less than one month. "It was near the end of October when we decided to do this," she said. "Through email, we got ev- erything that was at the show; the performers, the silent auction, the gift tables... everything." The Ladds were long-time Goderich residents before moving to St. Thomas seven years ago. 41111 rlir Habitat NR for Humanity® Huron County ReStore ••• NOW OPEN TO FRIDAY 1.0:0 RDAY 10:00AM. 0 -ipalTAPIQ Come in to see our Christmas Selections arriving daily,..
