The Goderich Police Services Board is
looking at a budget of $1.74 million for
the coming year.
Because the board renewed their po-
licing contract ahead of time last year,
they were able to keep their 2003 rates
while elsewhere municipalities are sub-
ject to the new costing formula for OPP
services.

Six heritage -themed projects
will be moving forward thanks
to a thumbs up by Huron County
Council's Nov. 19 committee -of -
the -session.
In making a presentation on
the county's recently introduced
$20,000 Huron Heritage Fund
program, director of cultural
services Beth Ross notes seven
groups - six of which qualify

lows for one-time grants of up to
$5,000, which must be matched
or exceeded by the applicant.
Coun. Bernie MacLellan (Hu-
ron East) expressed concern with
one applicant that is seeking a
$5,000 grant for a $15,000 project
to rehabilitate statues on his Cen-
tral Huron property.
"To me it sounds like we're
repairing someone's lawn orna-
ments," says MacLellan. "The
statues themselves don't have a
significant historical background
so why are we fixing them?"
however, took exception to Ma-
cLellan's assertion, and argued the
statues' preservation is worthy of
county support.
The projects moving forward,
once county council endorses the
COWs recommendation, include
a $5,000 grant for the $15,000 res-
toration of the George Laithwaite
statues at Apple Park; $1,500 for
a $3,000 book on the Work of
Johan Gemeinhardt by applicant
Phil Gemeinhardt; $1,155 for the

tee plaquing project by the Huron
East Heritage Committee; $900
for the $2,547 book project, The
