Goderich's Habitat for Hu-
manity ReStore is considering
expanding, mere months after
opening their doors.
"You can look around here,"
Kevin Morrison, Executive Di-
rector of the Habitat for Human-
ity Huron County Branch said.
"We're filled, and we're moving
things everyday, so it's always
changing. We've been over-
whelmed by the support for the
store."
Located in the Zehr's plaza,
inside the old Giant Tiger store,
the shop offers new and used
furniture, appliances, and odds
and ends that are donated by
companies and individuals. The
proceeds of all sales go to the
Habitat for Humanity builds, like
the 2010 build scheduled for Sea -
forth.
The store is looking at moving
to a lot HFH has purchased on
Parson's Court to have the space
they need, but Morrison says that
an expansion to another Huron
County center could also be on
the horizon.
"We've got so many things, we
could be doing twice as much
business in two centers," he said.
Building their new Goderich
location is really the only option,
according to Morrison, due to
prices in the area.
"We've done the research, and
building just makes sense. We re-
ceive gifts in the form of time and
work, and we know that we'll be
able to build our new location for
less than we could buy or lease in
town," Morrison said.
The ReStore, which opened the
first weekend in July, has done
slightly less than $80,000 in
sales and diverted 85,000 pounds
of materials from being sent to
landfill:
"We get things that people may
not think of, both new and used,"
Morrison said, adding that the
store recently was donated 11
brand new bath tubs that would
have otherwise made their way to
a landfill.
Originally, they were set to
move out of their current location
and into the new store on Parsons
Court by November 30, but due
to delays connected to getting the
necessary permits, the build for
the new store has been moved to
spring of 2010.

wait, but Giant Tiger Canada has
offered us the space well into next
year, so we won't need to worry
about it," Morrison said. "There
have been a lot of frustrations
with getting the building going,
but we've had local tradespeople
come in and help us with permits
to get around them."
Morrison said that the build
will happen, and, like other en-
deavors HFH Huron has under-
taken in the last year, it will go
just as well, if not better than ex-
pected.
"I've been here for a year, and
HFH has experienced growth
beyond all expectations in that
time," Morrison said. "We're
more visible, and we have more
support than ever."
